Winter Feast

The last day of term 2 Year 9 & 11 Hospitality students had the opportunity to show off their skills. They cooked and served a roast chicken lunch extravaganza for the entire St Luke’s staff. This links to the modules we have been doing in Basic Kitchen skills and Safe & Hygienic workplaces. Students prepared food safely, cooked it to perfection and served it with a smile. The staff were overwhelmed with the professionalism the students showed and showered them with praise and emails of thanks. We Are all super proud of these students and look forward to our next service period.

Olympics Unleashed - Year 9

On Tuesday 26th July, we were fortunate enough to have a special guest from Olympics Unleashed visit and speak with our Year 9 students. Suzy Balogh, an Olympic Gold Medalist in the sport of Clay Target Shooting shared her journey from childhood to growing up and winning an Olympic Gold Medal. Students were in awe as they listened to Suzy speak about her journey and the importance of goal setting, while touching on the themes of overcoming challenges and resilience to ensure each and every student finds a way to unleash their passion and be the best version of themselves.

Year 9 WWI History Incursion

On Wednesday 27th July, Year 9 students participated in a Living History Incursion as part of their study into Australians at War. Shane from WWI Living History presented the typical Australian soldier experience in the frontline trenches of France 1916-1918. Students were given the opportunity through fact based storytelling and genuine artefacts such as uniforms, tools, first aid, gas defence, weapons and more to understand and become immersed in our country's sacrifice and efforts during the First World War.

 Thursday, 21st July

During the first week of Term Three, our students undertaking HSC subjects were given the opportunity to participate in two syllabus engagement days. The first took place on the 19th of July and involved students from HSC Design and Technology working together to unpack the syllabus under the supervision of their teacher, Mrs Kelly Bauer. The second event took place two days later, on the 21st of July, and was targeted at students studying accelerated Studies of Religion I unit with Ms Fernandes, Mrs Atkins and Ms Johnstone.

Through their participation in these events, all of the students were given the chance to deepen their understanding of the content, while also developing their ability to express their ideas in both verbal and written form. The students found these activities to be extremely valuable, and they loved having the opportunity to collaborate with their peers in preparation for their upcoming trial exams.

The team at St Luke’s would like to commend the students for the effort they displayed during these activities and we wish them all the best for their upcoming trial HSC exams.

Year 11 Biology

It can be hard to grasp how long 4.6 billion years actually is. Year 11 Biology worked on creating a scaled Geologic Time Scale to represent the major events in the evolution of life- each 0.5m represented 500 million years of time. It stretched for 4.6 metres across the COLA, and gave the students an appreciation of the diversity of life on Earth.
