Students from years 7 to 8 are selected each term to take part in the Victorian High-Ability Program based on their NAPLAN and school assessment tasks. They are chosen for the English or Maths stream program each term, where their abilities will be further developed and extended.
The Victorian High-Ability Program is an extension course running for one school term, where students will meet with like-minded peers at neighbouring Victorian government schools through weekly virtual lessons. The weekly virtual lessons will occur during the school day and will be taught by expert Virtual School Victoria educators. Students are expected to complete any coursework missed from their other subjects in their own time.
The Victorian High-Ability Program is free. It is funded by the Victorian Government’s new Student Excellence Program.
The library prepared a display to promote Malala Day which is celebrated around the world on Tuesday 12th July.
Malala Yousafzai was about the same age as the students in our school when she stood up for the right to education for girls and other disadvantaged young people in her village in Pakistan.
She risked her life and the impact of her bravery and influence has led to global change in education. The mother of year 9 student Maleeha went to school with Malala in Pakistan!
Maleeha can’t wait to borrow one of the books in the Malala Day display for her family to read. (https://nationaltoday.com/malala-day/)
