Dear Parents and families,

We are half way the term and its hard to believe this is the first term 3 we have been at school in 3 years. Term 3 is traditionally the 'Get down and knuckle down' term where a lot of the learning is consolidated and students make great growth. There has certainly been  a lot of learning and experiences going on at Sacred Heart over the past fortnight.

Winter Woolies Appeal

Last week Dara Blake organised a great Winter Woolies fundraiser for families in need. It was a great way to raise some funds and have some fun at the same time.

Monday Book Club

I have loved joining Mrs Brown at Book Club on Mondays at lunchtime where we explore  a new picture book each week, with a focus on topics from our Respectful Relationships program. Our latest book "The Love Umbrella" was about the love and care we have around us when things don't always go to plan. The students coloured in their umbrellas and thought of people at home and school that they go to support them , like their invisible love umbrella.

 RESILIENCE & INDEPENDENCE

We have also noticed many children showing their resilience and independence as the term progresses and bouncing back when things don't go to plan. This starts at the front gate when our preps are carrying their own school bags in and out of the classroom and playground. Look at Lucy & Lilah doing a great job!

This was also  evident in our Green Hats workshops on Monday when many block towers fell over and students had to re- build their towers all over again. If you want some more information on Resilience and Independence please read the article attached with some useful tips.

HOOPTIME

Teamwork was key for the 5/6 students at Hooptime last Friday and to get another team through to the next stage was a phenomenal effort. Congratulations Sacred Heart, your grit and perseverance in basketball is paying off.  A huge thanks to Mr Trent Thiessens for co-ordinating all the teams and all his organisation on the day. Thanks to all the parents that supported, helped and attended too.

MATHS WEEK

We have enjoyed a brilliant Maths Week this week with so many exciting activities and learning tasks running across the school. I had the privilege of teaching some Maths classes this week with Mystery numbers and Time problem solving tasks. You could see the cogs ticking.  Thanks to Mr Dara Blake for organising all the fun Maths learning this week.

BOOK WEEK 2022

22nd-26th August

Dreaming with Eyes open

Hopefully students and parents have started to get their thinking caps on and are preparing for our biggest Book Week Parade ever. Students, please have think of your favourite book character and make it easy; find something you already have at home or Op shops are  a great place to find costumes. Bring your book along so we know what book your character is from. We are hoping to have a coffee van for the parents on the day of the parade Wednesday 24th August so please come along and join in the festivities. There will also be an Author visit from Chris Kennet, a renowned Author & Illustrator on Friday of that week.

As the term progresses we encourage your children to develop  a growth mindset and know they can strive to achieve whatever they set their minds to. We encourage you to use growth mindset language at home and use the word YET! e.g "You haven't quite achieved it yet! Have  a read of the above article for more information.

Final Thoughts.....

If you get  a chance snuggle up and read a book with your child, these moments are precious.

Wishing you all  a safe, healthy and happy weekend,
