From the Head of Sport

Welcome back!

Welcome back to school and to the end of the winter sport season. We have three rounds of competition remaining before the Semis and Finals. The Rugby boys will be playing for 'first past the post', so they will have five rounds of competition.

All training recommenced this week. Please remember that training is only cancelled if an alternate venue cannot be arranged. At this stage all training sessions are on and if you have any questions regarding games or training please talk to your MIC.

Orienteering Update (from Mark and Vanessa Freeman)

The next schools' Orienteering event open to BMGS students is the 2022 NSW Schools Orienteering Championships, scheduled for 3rd/4th September in Sydney. The format is two Sprint races on Saturday at Cherrybrook HS and Hills Grammar School, Kenthurst (results are based on the cumulative results from both races); followed on Sunday by the bush event at Scheyville National Park. You can enter one or both days.

Both events use Sportldent sticks (SI sticks) which can be hired at entry. Entry is done individually by the students/parents via the following link:

https://www.trybooking.com/BZKNO

Information regarding the event (and many other events) can be found on Eventor, the orienteering calendar website. You do not need a login to browse events and read the information:  https://eventor.orienteering.asn.au/

Parents are responsible for completing the entries and for transport to the events. Parents wishing to participate at the same time can enter the associated events on the Eventor website/calendar as listed above. They are the state league events 14 and 15 on the same days and at the same locations as the Schools Championships. Again, you don't have to belong to a club to enter and can hire SportIdent sticks with your entry fee.

When booking students in via the Trybooking link, you will be asked to nominate your age, class and whether you wish to compete in the A or B section. You may choose either class, however, it is suggested that any newcomer should select the B class. Those students who participated in the after school events at BMGS would be capable of running the A class for the sprint events. Students with experience of bush events and compass use could enter the A class for the Sunday. The B class is suitable for novices.

Unfortunately, the Sydney West event that we had previously looked at entering this term is only open to students from public schools as it is run by CHS, therefore the above event is the schools competition available to us.

ISA Athletics

The ISA Athletics Carnival will be held on Tuesday, 13th September. The BMGS team will be posted on the Sports Office Noticeboard next week. Please ensure you let me know if you are unavailable for all the events that you have qualified for.

Any students who currently participate in triple jump or hurdle events through Little Athletics can come and see me at the Sports Office for further information.

Mountain Biking

Unfortunately, the Mountain Biking competition that was to be held on the first weekend of the holidays had to be postponed. This will be held in Term 4 so if you are interested please watch the screens around the School and read the Newsletter for any updates.

Sporting Fixtures - Saturday, 23rd July

Unfortunately we have had to cancel tomorrow’s Football games that were to be played at home due to the state of the field.

We have also received a forfeit from Redlands in their D6 Netball.
