Principal's Report

by Helen Freeman

Thank you

Mrs Stonehouse-Melke and I would like to thank the staff and students for the lovely messages and acknowledgments we received on Friday - Australian Primary Principals’ Day. We are so lucky to lead and work with such a fantastic community of students, parents, and staff. You all play an important role in making Syndal South Primary a great school.

Staff News!

It’s been a fortnight of celebrations. On Monday 1st August Miss Ross gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Charlotte. Our congratulations go to the new proud parents of little Lottie.

Our congratulations also go to Miss Antzoulatos who announced her engagement on the weekend.

Please Tell Us What You Think!

Our school is surveying to find out what parents/caregivers/guardians think of our school. The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training that is designed to assist schools in gaining an understanding of families’ perceptions of school climate, student behavior, and student engagement. We encourage all families to participate in this survey. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

While previously a random sample of approximately 30 percent of parents/caregivers/guardians have been selected to participate, this year, all families are invited to participate in the survey.

The Parent/Caregiver/Guardian Opinion Survey will be conducted from Monday 15th August to Friday 16th September.

The survey will be conducted online, only takes 20 minutes to complete, and can be accessed at any convenient time within the fieldwork period on desktop computers, laptops, tablets, or smartphones. The online survey will be available in a range of languages other than English. These include Arabic, Vietnamese, Simplified Chinese, Chin (Hakha), Hindi, Japanese, Somali, Turkish, Punjabi, and Greek.  On Monday 15th of August, you will receive a Compass feed with all the details you will need to complete the survey. The survey results are extremely important to us to celebrate what the school is doing well but also the areas we need to change, and improve on to ensure our school maintains the high standard of education that our students experience and relish at Syndal South Primary School.

Working Bee

To all the wonderful families who turned up to our Working Bee, thank you!  It was a great day and all jobs were completed.

Our Matilda!

Recently, Mrs Searle and I went to Mount Waverley Secondary College’s musical production of ‘Matilda.’ The main character of the musical Matilda herself was performed by our one and only Willow. Willow was in Year 6 at Syndal South last year. Willow's performance was a delight to watch and experience. The combination of her speaking, singing, and acting talent was astonishing. Congratulations, Willow we are all very proud of your success.

Visit Brandon Park Shopping Centre to Vote for our Tree

The students under the talented guidance of Mrs Mann our wonderful visual art teacher have worked enthusiastically to decorate a large cardboard tree that is now on display on the lower level at Brandon Park Shopping Centre. Our tree is full of bright flowers, felted birds, butterflies and bugs. Decorated during art classes, students in every year level have added elements to make the tree bright and colourful.

Cash prizes are being awarded by the Centre Management for the three trees that they decide best to meet the brief of a Springtime tree.

Another prize of $1000 will be given to the tree that receives the most votes from shoppers.

Please visit Brandon Park Shopping Centre in Springvale Road and vote for Syndal South’s colourful springtime tree. You can use the QR code to view and vote for our tree.

Finally, our fabulous Foundation students are preparing to celebrate their '100 Days at School’ tomorrow. They are going to enjoy a special incursion ‘Brickworks’ that is all about Lego, it is an opportune time with Lego celebrating it’s 90th Birthday this week. Look forward to sharing the photos from this special occasion with you in the next newsletter.
