Specialist Report

Visual Art

During this term, all year levels have been learning various textile skills based on their age group, many students will tell you how learning to sew and working with fabric and thread have been challenging. Many students have not only focused on their art skills, but their resilience during Visual Art.

Foundation students created teddy bears by glueing details onto felt bears and learnt how to cut fabric. Their Year 3/4 buddies then helped them to sew their bears into a 3D soft toy.

Year 1/2 students learnt how to thread a needle and began to learn how to sew using a wooden loom. They also learnt how to thread beads. Many dads were given these artworks as gifts for Fathers’ Day.

Year 3/4 students have learnt how to thread a needle, tie a knot and create a running stitch. They were able to design and make their own mini soft sculpture based on the Melbourne artist Hanna Manchini.

Year 5/6 students have been learning how to needle felt. They have been focusing on the design process and ensuring they are taking their time to produce high quality artwork for the upcoming Specialist Showcase in Term 4.

Japanese - Year Three and Four

Konnichiwa to all our subarashii (wonderful) school community,

This term our Year Three and Four students have been learning about Manga (a Japanese word for comics) and how to describe body parts based on their sizes, lengths, and colours in Japanese. They are currently in the middle of creating and writing descriptions about their manga character. Before they show the final products, which will be on display at the Specialist Showcase next term, here is a preview of some of the characters students in 3/4 A and 3/4 C. Students followed a step-by-step tutorial on how to draw the face and were free to draw their body in any way they want. Just look how subarashii they all look!
