School  Charism

The entire staff will be participating in a Religious Education School Closure August 29 where we will be developing our school charism.

Charism provides a foundation on which a school can build its community, and  express its way of being distinctly Catholic. It provides the lens through which to view the gospel, in the hope that all will be inspired to live out the call to discipleship.

Many catholic schools are finding that it is important in the 21st century to have a school charism as it provides a way through which to express their Catholic Identity.

Holy Family School was founded in 1960 by the Presentation Sisters. Our charism will be linked to the spirituality of the Presentation Order and their founder Nano Nagle. We will be developing a charism of hope symbolised by the lantern which is a recognised symbol of their work, their mission and their charism.

We look forward to sharing more information with you about our founding order, Nano Nagle and our school charism after this day.

Spotlight on Saint Mary MacKillop

Mary MacKillp
Mary MacKillp

On 8 August we celebrate the feast of Australia's first saint, Mary MacKillop.

Mary was the eldest from a family of eight children.

As a young woman, Mary opened the first Catholic school in Penola, South Australia with Fr Julian Tennison Woods. Located in the Australian outback, it provided free education to the poor and marginalised.

Mary became a nun and with the help of Fr Julian, founded the Sisters of Saint Joseph.

Mary dedicated her life to setting up schools and places of refuge and rehabilitation for the poor.

She died on 8 August 1909 and was canonised as Australia's patron saint by Pope John Paul II in 2010.
