Weeks 4 and 5

Broken Asphalt

First of all, I have some excellent news. We have a concrete contractor who will repair the damaged asphalt in front of the cage containing the big bin. The damaged asphalt has been growing this year and has been a magnet for the younger children.

The work is scheduled for this Saturday, and the concreters will be laying 64 square metres of concrete.

Spring

With the start of August, we are in the last month of winter, and the days are getting a bit brighter with more daylight. With the longer, warmer days, we will hopefully start having fewer children and staff sick with the flu. This flu season has been very tough on the children, their families and school staff, and I look forward to the numbers of people with the flu tapering off.

Dental Van

The dental van has been at school this week, and many children visited it.

Hoop Time

Last week we sent three senior basketball teams to the Hoop time competition. All the teams did very well in the tournament. All the children played very well and were great ambassadors for our school. I was very proud of how our boy's team handled a situation where the umpires made an error that cost the boys the game in their semi-final. In these situations, it can be easy to forget who you are and who you represent when things go wrong. Still, they handled a very challenging situation with maturity and composure. Even if the ref makes a mistake, they are still the ref. Thank you, boys, for displaying our school values in this challenging situation.

Kindergartens

We are back now visiting the kindergartens with our senior students. Our relationship with the local kindies had to stop during the Covid period, The children have been twice already, and everything went very well. Ms Drossaert received some excellent feedback about the children's thoughtfulness and, in the case of one child, his outstanding display of empathy when a young kinder child fell over.

Have a great week, everyone.
