A fantastic Introduction

As many of you may be aware, I am filling in for Miss Gaunt as Deputy Principal for the next 9 months. I feel that there will be some wonderful experiences at WACOA –Denmark and I am looking forward to making a valuable contribution to the learning experiences of students and staff.

I have recently come from Australind SHS where I worked as the Head of Technology and as the Vocational Education and Training Coordinator for over 4 years. I have a range of experiences which also include 2 years as Deputy Principal in Jurien Bay and 3 years as Deputy Principal at Christmas Island.

It is a pleasure to be at WACOA – Denmark. I am in awe at the fabulous programs and facilities at the College. We are very well resourced. Trainers and teachers are wonderful and the outcomes for students are amazing. Students, staff and parents have been so welcoming and I feel privileged to be a part of the team.

Thank you.

Year 10 Career Education

It is very important that our students understand the importance of their move to Year 11 in 2023.

At WACOA – Denmark, we will be assisting Year 10 students with making informed choices about their options for Senior School and the importance of the qualifications we deliver on site. A Career Education program will be delivered to all Year 10 students over the coming months.

A letter will come out to parents and guardians of Year 10 students soon, outlining our plan to prepare students for making informed decisions about senior school and future pathways. This will include the involvement of parents and guardians.

Term 3, Week 7

Parents and guardians will be aware that almost all Year 11 and 12 College students must be involved in either Country Week or Work Experience in week 7 of Term 3. There has been a recent minor adjustment for Year 12 ATAR students. A letter has recently gone out to families with a child in Year 12 ATAR whereby they have been informed their child has an option to remain at the College for the week to focus on preparation for Year 12 mock and ATAR exams. A program of class contact time is being set up for Year 12 ATAR staff and students.

For Year 10 students it is either Country Week or a modified learning program at the College. This modified learning program at the College will include a range of valuable Career Education activities. Year 10 students on Country Week will obtain this information on their return.

It is important parents/guardians realise that if students are not involved in any of the above activities they will be marked absent from school for the week with an unacceptable reason.

Thanks to the parents and guardians who have been proactive with supporting their child with obtaining work experience and for their support in completing the required paperwork. Work Experience opportunities outside the College are rare and when available should be utilised to support students, building their confidence in alternative workplace environments, building their networks, obtaining different career experiences and for some, potentially confirming a career pathway. Please contact Mrs Lockyer if you have any questions about Work Experience.

I am looking forward to the continued wonderful experiences such as Open Day and Primary Awareness Day.
