Kye Jarvis
College Vice Captain 2016
Kye Jarvis has been selected in the Under 18 Australian ‘Auroras’ Dragon Boat team to compete in the 13th World Nations Championships from 27 - 30 July 2017 at Divonne-Les-Bains in France.
Born and bred in Melbourne, Kye started dragon boating only a little over 1 year ago through a Naval Cadets Weekend On Board camp in late 2015. Members of the Dragonboat Victoria approached Kye at the camp, acknowledging his natural ability and paddling technique and encouraged him to try out for the Victorian State Team. Through hard work and dedication to the training regime, Kye was successful and chosen to represent Victoria in the Under 18 Dragon Boating team in 2016 and Captained the Victoria Team in the recent April 2017 Australian National Championships in Albury-Wodonga.
Kye is a current Able Seaman (AB) with Training Ship (T.S) Melbourne at Surrey Hills Cadets Navy Base. Kye was awarded Cadet of the Year in 2016 with T.S. Melbourne, and won the Australian Defence Force Long Tan Award for Youth Leadership and Teamwork Award, nominated by his then school St James College Year 10 and previously was awarded the Year 9 St James College Award in 2015.
Kye has participated in many community sports including basketball, as a representative player, coach and referee, football and was awarded a Bronze Medallion in Surf Life Saving with Brighton Life Saving Club.
Jordan Nandan, Julian Petrone, Joshua Bell
& Anthony Bougioukos
St James College Old Boys have had a great success at the International Silent Film Festival. Last year Julian, Anthony, Joshua and Jordan won the Australian competition. They were then invited to the International finals in Portland (USA) and after raising the money to travel over there, competed against the best Youth Silent Films in the world.
These talented alumni came in second with their film ‘Writer’s Block’ and were awarded $1500 for their efforts.
During the trip, the young men made a number of contacts they can use to take them further into the film industry.
From the Class of 2015, the boys said they entered the competition because of the love of film making that was first ignited at St James College.
