Year 12 VCE Study
Study Support Sessions Tuesdays and Thursdays
The final examination period for Year 12 VCE is fast approaching and our Year 12 students are flat out finishing off their courses. Over the last four weeks of their course students will be finalising their SACS, undertaking practice exams and guiding their own revision. This can be overwhelming for some and it is important that we encourage the students to stay positive and keep focused.
To support students, the school is offering a number of initiatives and although these are voluntary in nature we would like parents to encourage their children to take full advantage of the opportunities.
Beginning Tuesday September 10 our teachers have kindly offered to run study support sessions for students after school for an hour (3:30pm-4:30pm). These will run twice a week Tuesdays and Thursdays until the exams begin. We currently have 24 teachers who have volunteered to be on hand to assist students with any of the following:
- General study advice
- Specific subject advice
- Practice questions
- Feedback
- Revision Strategies that work
- SAC preparation
Mr Murphy has also offered to keep energy up with a supply of Krispy Creme donuts.
All sessions are in the Senior Centre.
Knox Network VCE Lecture Series
There are many commercial companies that offer VCE revision lectures to students over the school holiday period. These usually cost somewhere in the vicinity of $50-$80 per lecture and require the students to travel to a central city location.
This year the Knox Network of State Secondary Schools has put together a series of lectures in the first week of the holidays that are free of charge for our students. They have sourced outstanding external educators for each session. Students have been provided with the program of what is running when and should have already signed up for what they will attend.
This is a fantastic opportunity to get ahead of the pack with no additional cost required. Students will also be provided with study materials that they can take away with them.
All sessions will run at 1330 Ferntree Gully Road Scoresby. Bookings are required and should be made through Compass.
Revision Lessons and Practice Exams over the holiday break
In addition to the previous two initiatives a significant number of teachers have made themselves available over the second week of the holidays to run revision sessions and practice exams. Again this is a fantastic chance for students to get some feedback and to be able to pinpoint the ares where they need to invest their energies in their revision.
we hope all year 12 students take advantage of these opportunities and put themselves in the best place possible to ace their exams.
Teachers running sessions will have advised students of times and dates during class time.
Year 12 Last Days
It is really important the the year 12 students keep focused until the very end. It can be very tempting to begin celebrating the last of everything: the last SAC, the last class, the last home group etc. We have found through previous experience that this is detrimental to study and that it is important that students keep the celebration till after the exams. We ask that parents talk to their children about the importance of staying the distance and on task until the very end.
As a result of wanting to keep students focused the key celebration of year 12 will be after the final exam. This is the Year 12 Valedictory Dinner on Wednesday 20th November and will be held at:
