Creativity, Activity & Service

CAS in the Diploma core
It's never too early to start thinking about what you can do for your CAS component of the DP. You may already be doing many things that are suitable for a CAS experience.
The International Baccalaureate (IB) is committed to developing students who will make a meaningful contribution to the world, both during and after their education. As part of their commitment to this, the Diploma Programme* (DP) includes Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) as one of the required components of the DP core. The DP core is studied throughout the curriculum, alongside a student’s chosen subjects.
You can read more about the program and about each of these CAS elements on our dedicated CAS Weebly: https://preshilcasprogram.weebly.com/
Creativity
Creativity will come from the student’s talents, interests, passions, emotional responses, and imagination; the form of expression is limitless. This may include visual and performing arts, digital design, writing, film, culinary arts, crafts and composition. Students are encouraged to engage in creative endeavours that move them beyond the familiar, broadening their scope from conventional to unconventional thinking.
CREATIVITY IDEAS:

Activity
Activity is about promoting lifelong healthy habits related to physical well- being. Pursuits may include individual and team sports, aerobic exercise, dance, outdoor recreation, fitness training, and any other form of physical exertion that purposefully contributes to a healthy lifestyle. Students are encouraged to participate at an appropriate level and on a regular basis to provide a genuine challenge and benefit.

Service
The service element of CAS requires students to undertake an unpaid and voluntary exchange, which then has learning benefits. Students therefore apply knowledge and skills to community service, complementing their academic study.
Following are some possible ideas for Service in the CAS program. We post regularly on the Compass Newsfeed as opportunities and ideas arise. You can also check the notice boards around the school or our dedicated CAS Weebly.
SERVICE IDEAS:
Indigenous Literacy Foundation
There are many ways to fundraise for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation that could include all 3 strands of the CAS.
1. Hold a 'Great Book Swap' The idea is to swap a favourite book in exchange for another, for a gold coin or note donation. You could design and create a poster to advertise the event. (Creativity and Service) or
2. Participate in marathons, races and charity drives. Organise a morning tea with friends, a dinner party, bake sale, bookclub or put on a performance. Donate a percentage of your sales. (Activity, Service and Creativity if you perform or design your own special promotional material.)
