ICAS Reach-English
This week saw students in Years Two to Six sit the online ICAS Reach English paper. Reach Assessments provide knowledge to educators and are a powerful diagnostic tool for future planning. The assessments are based on the curricula for the relevant year. Items range from recall and routine application, through to more demanding questions.
In late Term Two, the same students sat the ICAS REACH Science paper. Scores are graded - Participation, Good Effort, Commendable and Outstanding. The following students achieved a score that gained them an ‘Outstanding’ certificate. These will be presented at our Week 5 Assembly;
Year Two - Andrew Sun, Sophie Satchell and Andy Stewart
Year Three - Frederick Milne
Year Four - Chloe Laidlaw
Year Six - Harry Brown
Year Five Sovereign Hill Camp
Last week the Year Five class headed back in time to 1854. They attended the ‘Ragged School’ at Sovereign Hill for a two-day Costume School programme. The students experienced the life of orphaned children. They were given a taste of the trades and crafts that were available to children on the Ballarat diggings. Sovereign Hill staff complimented the Year Fives on their manners, attitude and approach to the costume school programme. Thank you to Mr Graham Lewis, Mrs Louise Patterson and parent Mrs Marnie White for providing a rich and memorable experience at Sovereign Hill.
Compass Award and 'Ojo de Dios' ('God's Eyes')
As we enter Semester Two, Year Six students are encouraged to complete Level 1 and 2 of their Compass Awards. The Compass Award requires students to complete a set number of hours in the following four areas; volunteering, hobbies, sports and exploration. As part of the Sheepvention celebration, students were shown how to make ‘God’s Eyes’ out of sticks and coloured wool. These are on display in the Junior School Library. This activity satisfies the hobbies criteria of the award.
