I wonder...

Health

Over the next month we will be wrapping up our ideas and understandings about how we can keep our minds and bodies healthy and safe? More recently we have been focussing on how we can keep our minds healthy including topics like:

- showing gratitude

- adopting a growth mindset

- exploring relaxation strategies

HASS

This term, we will be looking at the History strand of the Australian Curriculum. Students will be focussing on ‘What is my history and how do I know?’ There are many big ideas that will be covered throughout the unit, some include:

* Understanding that everyone belongs to a family however these families, their structures and experiences may differ.

* How families are similar and different.

* Life events happen in a sequence (order).

This unit will allow students to ask questions about the past, explore and compare a range of sources (including magazine, photos, drawings, books) and to add simple historical terms about the past and present to their expanding vocabularies.

The unit will encourage students to develop a personal understanding of who is in their family and how each of them are related.

Students will be engaging with their families and exploring their own family story. We would love it if you could talk to your child about their history and their family to get them thinking about their past.

Later on in the Semester we will be looking at Geography and focussing on the world around us.

We will look at the following questions-

What are places like?

What makes a place special?

How can we look after the places we live in?

Through our studies in Geography, students will explore the place they live in and belong to, learn to observe and describe its features, and why it is important to them. They will explore their own special places, how they feel about them, what makes them special, and how they can care for them.

Child Protection Curriculum

It is the DECD requirement that every year the child protection curriculum is taught in schools. The two main themes of the curriculum are ‘we all have the right to be safe’ and ‘we can help ourselves to be safe by talking to people we trust’. The topics we will cover this semester will include: ‘the right to be safe’, ‘relationships’, ‘recognising and reporting abuse’ and ‘protective strategies’. If you require further clarification of the DECD ‘Keeping safe child protection curriculum’ please visit the DECD website.

The ARTS

During terms 3 and 4 our focus in the Arts will be on Visual Arts, dance and ICT/design and technology. This is a great opportunity for students to express themselves creatively, learn new skills and work with another teacher. We cannot wait to show off our new learning.

Fundamental Movement Skills

We will be continuing to focus on student's gross motor skills during our fundamental movement skills sessions and also through cooperative and fun games.  On Thursday and Friday afternoons all receptions participate in sessions outside practising the following skills:

-balance

-hopping

-jumping

-skipping

-galloping

-throwing and catching,

-dribbling

It is a great time to get outside, enjoy our outdoor learning space and move our bodies in different ways.
