Instrumental Tasting Plate
As we all know learning a musical instrument has many wonderful educational benefits for our children including resilience, perseverance and creative problem solving. We encourage all children to learn a musical instrument at Preshil.
Starting with strings (violin, viola or cello) or piano can give students a wonderful foundation for both aural training and note reading. Woodwind, brass, percussion and voice are better taken up in the middle primary years. Finding the right instrument is vital in experiencing the enjoyment of learning an instrument.
We hope that you and your child will be able to join us next Monday 25 February from 6-7pm in the hall to meet the teachers and to try the instruments for yourselves.
Engaging in instrumental music requires support from parents, consistent practise from the child (even 5 minutes per day) and a great deal of patience from both parents and children. Persevering with an instrument long enough to build skills is the real challenge and is best achieved together. One way of doing this is by participating in ensemble music making. Playing or singing in an ensemble offers students the opportunity to make new friends, build on their skills and share the joy of making music.
The rewards from learning an instrument and being part of an ensemble over many years are enormous, particularly for their psychological benefits. I do hope that your child engages with music making at Preshil.
