Gospel Reading

(John 10:1-10)

‘Very truly, I tell you, anyone who does not enter the sheepfold by the gate but climbs in by another way is a thief and a bandit. The one who enters by the gate is the shepherd of the sheep. The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep hear his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes ahead of them, and the sheep follow him because they know his voice.

Spiritual Reflection

In this gospel reading, John shares beautiful imagery of Jesus, the good shepherd who knows his sheep. A shepherd that protects his flock from harm. Like Jesus, the shepherd, he knows each one of us by name. He protects us, watches over us and guides us to safe pastures. Because we are loved by a God who gives us freedom, we may choose to stray but rest assured, the good shepherd will look for us and gently call us back.

We are promised an abundant life, a life lived to the full.

What path am I currently on?

Am I living my life to the full?

Where is the good shepherd gently calling me to?

Concluding Prayer

Lord, let me hear your voice so that I may open the gate of my heart for you. Draw me to the pathways of life. May others then see me as a safe gateway leading to abundant life.

Amen
