Teaching and Learning

ART

In the last week of term one  our Art lesson saw students use watercolour pencils to create their own representation of the Easter Bunny.  For most students it was their first time using watercolour pencils and I am sure you will agree that they did an amazing job.

This lesson concluded our unit on drawing and painting and we will now move onto printmaking and collage activities for the term.

Outdoor Education

This term will see us plant vegetable seedlings into our garden boxes- we can not wait to care for them and watch them grow. Once they are ready, we will "harvest" them and use them to create some yummy foods (especially with our new fancy kitchen appliances).

Last term we were so fortunate to have been visited by local author Lauren Mitchell, who has written a book called Dragon Dance. Our students made their own Chinese-style dragon (just like the character in the book did) and paraded for Lauren. Lauren was kind enough to not only read her book to the students but also tell us about how she came up with the idea for the book and about the writing process for her. We were also very, (x100) excited to learn that Lauren is writing a new book that is set in Raywood! We hope that we can be a part of the launch of this book and can not wait to read it.

A special thank you to Sarah Mayor-Cox too, who has so kindly donated a copy of Lauren's book to our school. We were able to get it signed by Lauren and it will now take pride of place in our classrooms and school library.

Below are some of the dragons that the students drew following Lauren's visit.
