Bouncing Into Term 2

What a surprise our students got when they returned from the holiday break!

A huge thank you to Mr Collins for sourcing the trampoline, picking it up in Melbourne and putting it together (with the help of his mum) so that it was ready and waiting for our students at the beginning of term.

Rest assured, the trampoline has all of the safety features of a sturdy net which is secured to the mat (no gaps) and is springless. Our students have been busy deciding on rules and protocols for the use of the trampoline to ensure we are safe and fair at all times.

This is not the only surprise for our students. We are delighted to report that we have the engineers plans drawn up for our new play equipment. We are planning to build it in two stages (due to cost) and have saved enough money (thanks to our fundraising efforts and donations) to begin stage one. Our students have been involved in the planning process in selecting some of the apparatus they would like to have included and the colours of the playground. Subject to School Council approval, we will order the stage one structures this week ( the turn around is about 4 months, so the sooner we do this the better). We will display both stages of plans in the main entry, so if you are about, please call in and take a look.

Edendale Farm Excursion

A reminder that this excursion is on THIS FRIDAY.  Students should be in full school uniform and bring a coat. They will need their morning tea, lunch and drink bottle. The bus will depart ASQ at 7.30 am (please be there at 7.20am)  and we will return around  5pm (Lisa will text an exact arrival time when we are on our way home).

We feel very fortunate to be able to offer this excursion free of charge to our families due to a successful grant application for sustainability.

ANZAC Ceremony

On Wednesday we held an ANZAC Ceremony at school. This was lead by our Year Six students, Link and Piper. Both students did an outstanding job during this ceremony. Thank you to the community members who came up for the ceremony, it is always lovely to have your support.

At the end of last term the students created ANZAC artwork whereby they drew a poppy field (to represent Flander's Field) and used the crayon resist technique to produce colour. These were very effective pictures and the students were very proud of their efforts.

Last Day of Term

Our students had a great last day of Term 1. They all took the opportunity to come to school out of uniform (in casual clothes) and also bring along some gold coin to contribute the Royal Children's Hospital Good Friday Appeal. We raised $75 for this very worthwhile cause- thank you to our students, their families and staff for being so generous.

Of course it wouldn't be the last day of term without a visit from the Easter Bunny- who once again managed to leave his dusty footprints all over the classrooms.  Luckily we had left our Easter baskets out and he found them to fill.

We finished the afternoon off with our annual egg scramble, which is always a heap of fun.

Cross Country

Congratulations to all of our students who competed in the Campaspe Cluster Cross Country event held in Elmore in the last week of term. Our school is the organising school for this event and a special thank you to Mr Collins, who spent a great deal of time organising entries, marking out the track and collecting results. Thank you also to the staff that transported the students to and from the event so that we did not have to ask families for money to run a bus.

Below are some photos from the day...

Pie Warmer

Everyday this term (and in Term 3) we will be operating the pie warmer.  Students can bring along items wrapped (and named) in foil or in a foil container that will be placed in the warmer at recess and heated up ready for lunch time. A reminder that we are unable to heat cans, plastic wrap and paper items in the pie warmer. The items do not have to be pies or other pastry products, last year we had re-heats of the previous night's dinner, pizza slices, toasted sandwiches, roast rolls, hot dogs in buns and so much more. Of course students do not have to use this service on days that they don't want to, but it is available as an option for a warm lunch during the colder school terms.

School Council

Our next meeting in on Monday May 22nd.

At our last meeting council looked over our playground inspection report and were informed of the steps being taken to replace our existing playground in two stages. Since that meeting we have secured quotes and have written to council for some pre-approval so we can order the first stage. These are very exciting times for Raywood Primary School.

Mother's Day Stall

On Friday May 12th we will hold a Mother's Day Stall at school. Our Year 6 Leaders will organise the set up and running of the stall. A range of gifts have been pre-purchased by the school and our students may bring along up to $5 per student to purchase a gift for their mum.

Breakfast Club

This will continue each Friday morning, with toast, cereal, fruit, baked beans and spaghetti on offer. We will also continue to offer "specials" throughout the term. By participating in this program we are fortunate to have supplies that we can use for student lunches, should they forget their lunchbox or something unexpected happens to the their lunch between home and school; (I could write a book!).

Please encourage your child/ren to use the breakfast club program on Fridays as we will only be able to continue to be a part of this service if we have students and families support it- even if they just pop in for a slice of toast or a hot milo and join with the rest of our school - it is a lovely way to start our Fridays.

We have been very fortunate to receive a significant grant from Foodshare to purchase electrical items to enhance our Breakfast Club and cooking programs. We have already taken delivery of a new toaster, an air fryer, kettle and blenders and are awaiting a jaffle maker, quad- sandwich press and a rice/slow cooker - watch this space to see how our junior Masterchefs create some delicious dishes now!

That's all for this week- Lisa Duffy
