Sacrament of the Eucharist 

This term some of our Year Four students will receive the Sacrament of the Eucharist for the first time. Receiving Jesus for the first time is a very special occasion. First Eucharist or more colloquially First Holy Communion is a key step in the initiation of a person into the community of the church. The whole parish community comes together to celebrate with the family and to welcome the new communicant, the person receiving Communion.

 

First Holy Communion is the beginning of a special journey of intimate lifelong connection and friendship with Jesus. When people receive Jesus in the Eucharist he nourishes and strengthens them to live good lives. 

 

The word ‘communion’ means to be united with someone. Catholics believe that in Holy Communion people are united in a special way with Jesus. Holy Communion and the whole celebration of the Mass is also known as the Eucharist. Eucharist is from a Greek word meaning thanksgiving. 

 

Everyone in our school community is invited to celebrate with our Year Four children this term, at their first Eucharist masses at St Helena of the Holy Cross Parish. First Eucharist will be celebrated at the following masses:
