Student Opinion Survey - Years 4 to 6

The Attitudes to School Survey is an annual student survey for Year 4 to Year 12 students offered by the Department of Education to assist schools in gaining an understanding of students' perceptions and experience of school.

Our school will use the survey results to plan programs and activities to improve your child's schooling experience. Students from Years 4, 5 and 6 at our school will participate in the survey in the next few weeks. All responses to the survey are anonymous. The survey results will be reported back to the school at the end of July. Please speak to your child’s teacher if you would like more information.

Early School Arrival

There are a number of students arriving at school way too early each morning. Please remember there is no school yard supervision prior to 8.45am in the mornings and after 3.45pm in the afternoons.

I know some of our students are keen to play in the yard with their friends before 8.45am, however, for the safety of the students, this is only possible with parent supervision.

TheirCare is available from 7:30 am each morning and runs until 6pm each afternoon.

Supervision during the 100km Club

We have staff participating and supervising during the 100km Club from 8.15am on a Wednesday morning, so students can be dropped off to participate in the 100km Club.  If your child is not participating in the 100km Club they must be supervised by a parent until 8.45am.

Late Arrivals

Can I please remind parents that our students are expected to be in their classroom by 9am ready to start the school day.

If your child is late to school, a parent or carer must come to the office to sign the child in, the children cannot sign themselves in.  I know this can be inconvenient for families who are possibly already running late, however it is to ensure the safety of your child.

Dogs in the Yard

A number of families walk their dogs to school with them in the morning and afternoon.  We do discourage this as we have a number of children highly anxious or frightened of dogs.

All dogs who do come to the school are to be on a lead and controlled by an adult.  All dogs, even little dogs, can sometimes be difficult for children to manage, for the safety of all communitry members please do not give the dog to your child to walk around the yard.

Ski Competition

Parents are reminded that registration is open for students who wish to join the Malvern Primary School Ski Team in the upcoming Interschool Ski Competition. Registration Forms are due in by Tuesday 11th July (first week of Term 3).

This year’s Interschool Ski Competition will be run from the 21st to 23rd August at Mt Buller. Your child does not need any previous race experience to compete and it is open to all ages of Primary (Prep to Year 6). If you would like more information, please contact the office.

Emails with details and links will be sent out to those families who attended last week's meeting or have requested them, before the end of the week.

National Road Safety Week

National Road Safety Week is from the 14th to the 21st May.  This week focusses on remembering the lives lost on our roads and preventing loss of life.

This week is also a timely reminder to us all of the importance of following road rules and teaching our children the behaviours that make them safer as they use the local streets to get to school and home again. Whether we like it or not our children are great mimickers of our behaviour and this includes the way we use the road.

We have regular lessons with our students on a range of road safety messages, it is also helpful if these are reinforced at home.

The lessons include, using crossings, holding an adult's hand when crossing the road, wearing bike helmets, not darting out from between parked cars, which side of the road to exit a car, how to look to ensure it is safe to cross a road, wearing seat belts, etc
