Fire & Rain Artwork Entries - North-Eastern Victoria Region Youth Concert 2023
In 2023, the North-Eastern Victoria Region will host a concert at Hamer Hall on Monday May 29 at 7pm to celebrate music making in government schools across the region. The theme of the concert is “Fire & Rain”.
The event organisers requested student artworks for potential selection for the concert program and on the stage screen behind the performers, and a bunch of keen EDSC students rose to the challenge (despite very short notice)!
I thought members of our community might appreciate seeing the entries, even if they do not make final selection. Every entrant is a winner in my book!

9 Art – Wire Sculptures
Year 9 Art students have undertaken a unit of work inspired by the artist Alexander Calder during Term 1.
Students began researching the style of Calder’s work by focusing on how he used line and shape to create form.
Students also explored drawing from portraits of people using the contour drawing method. These timed drawings ranged from 1 to 5 minutes, exploring the use of continuous line, capturing the key essence, shape, profile and expression of the subject matter.
Students then developed a final design from which they referenced their sculpture. Wire was used with pliers to create a base, neck and framework for the sculpture. Students endeavoured to create a close likeness to their final drawing through multiple profiles, hair styles, beards and facial expressions.
Please enjoy viewing the slides of student drawings and sculptures to follow.
