Dante Alighieri Poetry Recitation Competition 2023

Each year the Dante Alighieri Society holds a poetry recitation competition for students in Year 9-12.  Students select a poem for their year level from a list of poems provided, learn it by heart and recite it to an external judge. 

This is a state-wide competition. 

Over the last few years, a number of East Doncaster Secondary College students have received prizes, including first prize in their year level. A great achievement!

This year we have over 60 students who have selected to enter the competition.

The competition will be held on Thursday 8 June at The University of Melbourne. More information will come next term.

Italy Study Tour 2024

We are happy to announce that we will once again be running our Italy Study Tour in 2024.

The aim of the tour is to give students of Italian the opportunity to experience the language and the culture firsthand. Students will become more culturally aware about both the language and lifestyle and gain a greater appreciation of the language that they study. For this reason, as well as visiting many of the places that students learn about in class, they will also experience a home -stay component, where students will gain a real insight into both Italian school life and home life and be forced to speak Italian in a ‘real’ situation. 

Students will have the opportunity to stay with students who study at our Sister School, the Istituto Istruzione Superiore Biagio Pascal, a Senior Secondary College situated in Novara, in the Piemonte region. The school has a science and language focus and therefore is predominantly academic in nature.

Please note applications are to be submitted by Friday 28 April 2023 (Term 2, Week 1).

Please be advised this tour is only offered to students who will be undertaking the study of Italian in Year 10-12 in 2024.
