Library Leaders awarded leadership badges

EDSC Library Leaders who have completed their training have been awarded their leadership badges at a special pizza party.

All Library Leaders gathered at lunchtime on Tuesday April 4 for a party to recognise their contribution to the Library and school community.

Library Leaders are student representatives in their library: helping to maintain the library collection, writing book reviews, promoting the Library in the school community, and undertaking other creative and general tasks.

Through the program, our Library Leaders build new skills, get work experience, meet other students, and make the EDSC Library a great place to be.

21 Library Leaders who joined the program in past years have earned their coveted badges. They are: Angel W and Marina G of Year 11; Audrey P, Harrison S, Stephanie L and Tahlia C of Year 10; Bonnie M, Jasmine H, Jenica F, Kirat K and Marcus C of Year 9; and Amelia B, Angelique Z, Arshia K, Azeen S, Bani J, Cynthia C, Kareem A, Maryam A, Mehrbod H and Rhylan T of Year 8.

Library staff look forward to awarding badges to our new Library Leaders, who joined the program this year, during Term 2.

Holiday eBook Reading

The EDSC Library building might be closed over the holidays, but the Library has plenty of digital books to keep students reading throughout the break.

Our wide-ranging eBook and audiobook collection can be borrowed 24/7 through the Sora app, or from our library website.

The EDSC Library has produced instructions for students to customise Sora to improve accessibility, especially helpful for students with dyslexia or reading difficulties.

Students can also learn how to link their Sora app to public libraries, instantly increasing the range of eBooks and audiobooks they can read.

The instructions can be downloaded at this link.

Students should make sure to enter any eBooks and audiobooks they read during the holidays into the EDSC Reading Challenge.

Students read more than 2,000 books in the EDSC Reading Challenge

EDSC students have already read more than 2,000 books in the EDSC Reading Challenge – an amazing feat to achieve in Term 1!

Congratulations to Ethan K of 8C who has won this fortnight’s $10 canteen voucher prize draw (for all students who have entered a book into the Reading Challenge).

It’s not too late for students to get reading, as the EDSC Reading Challenge counts all the books ALL students and staff read from January 1 until August 30.

All students who read and verify 15 books will be invited to our end of year pizza party and will receive the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge certificate and EDSC house points. We are also awarding $20 book vouchers throughout the year for a range of reading awards.

Reading Challenge participants can add any books that have been read to our Google Form on our Reading Challenge webpage.

All details about the Reading Challenge are on our Reading Challenge webpage. Students are also welcome to visit the Library during Term 2 where staff can assist in recommending books to read and entering books into the Reading Challenge.

2023 Booklist Frequently Asked Questions:

What is Campion?

Campion is a third party company that EDSC uses to administer our booklist and supply new books to students.

Do I have to buy everything on the list?

You need to buy everything listed for the subjects your student is enrolled in. However, general stationery items such as pens and rulers do not need to be purchased from Campion if you already own these items or can source them elsewhere.

Do I have to buy books through Campion, or can I buy second-hand books elsewhere?

You don’t have to buy the books through Campion. However, there is a risk of buying incorrect editions of textbooks from other parties, as textbooks are revised regularly. If you’d like to buy second-hand books, we recommend buying them through the Sustainable School Shop. This company has been supplied with the EDSC booklist and can help ensure you buy the correct editions.

If you buy a second hand book, you should also check whether you need to purchase a digital code to access any extra online resources required.

Why am I charged $15.95 at the end of my order?

Campion charges a $5.95 processing fee for all orders. Orders will also be charged a $10 home delivery fee as due to COVID-19, school delivery and pick-up is unable to take place. However, you may be able to organise order pick-up from Campion by contacting Campion directly.
