An ANZAC Day Prayer

God of love and liberty,

we bring our thanks this day for the

peace and security we enjoy,

which was won for us through the

courage and devotion of those who

gave their lives in time of war.

We pray that their willingness to

defend our freedom and sacrifice

may not be in vain,

but that their spirit may live on in us

and in generations to come.

Welcome to Term 2

It was lovely to start term two with sunshine and so many happy faces reconnecting in the school yard with friends.

We also welcome two new families to St. Bernard’s. The Buckley family and the Vaccaro family, we know they will enjoy being part of the St. Bernard’s community.

ANZAC DAY

Tomorrow Tuesday 25th is ANZAC day and a public holiday, there will be no children at school.

Two of our senior Student leaders, Will Clark and Charli Rees will represent our school in the ceremony and lay a wreath at the Cenotaph on our behalf.

We invite school members to come down to the cenotaph to participate in the ANZAC day ceremony.

The Wangaratta RSL will be conducting the Main Service for ANZAC Day, 25th April 2023, at the Cenotaph on the corner of Ovens and Docker Streets, commencing at 11.00 am.

Our children all participated in a liturgy here at school today to reflect on and pay respect to all those people who have served in our forces.

Maintenance

We have had a lot of maintenance work carried out over the holidays and our school is looking fresh, safe and welcoming for our community.

Tasks completed were

the cover over the Foundation pergola
Audit and tree care of all trees
Change of old lights to LED
Service of all air conditioners in preparation for winter.

Eucharist and Confirmation

Our Sacramental children gathered this afternoon to continue their preparation for the sacraments of Eucharist and Confirmation.

We are completing a recap on the units related to the Holy Spirit and will start our Eucharist preparation next week.

The children have their books and will bring them home to share with their parents and fill in the details related to their Baptism.

We look forward to continuing this journey together.

The date for the celebration has changed from Friday night to Saturday 20th May at 6.00 pm in St. Patrick’s church.

Car park and Drop Off Protocols - Reminder

We encourage parents to drop off or pick up their children at the internal drop off / pick up zone near the hall or the drop off / pick up point at the front of the school.

The car park is entered from Skehan Ave. Cars travel at 5kms an hour and either -

1. Drive into the car park, where parents park their car then walk to the crossing point with their child and cross at the crossing point.

At no time should children cross into the car park, except at the designated crossing point with their parents. A teacher will be on duty at this crossing point.

Or

2. Choose to drive into the drop off zone where children will get out of their parent’s car on the left side of the car and walk up onto the footpath and into school.

Parents will then continue to drive out of the school by entering back onto the driveway out of the school.

The exit gate is automated to open.

At pick up time, a teacher will be at the drop off bay to direct children to their parent’s cars. The children will wait under the verandah of the hall and be directed by the teacher on duty to their parent’s car at the drop off point.

Parents do not leave their cars in the drop off zone. If you have grandparents etc supporting you with the drop off please familiarise them with the protocols for using the drop off zone.

It is important that students are waiting for pick up at the end of the day in either the hall drop off zone or the pick up zone at the front of the office.

There are teachers on duty at both zones to supervise the pick up of students.

Gates locked

An element of child safety in our school is the locking of our school gates. They are locked each day at 9.15 am and then opened at 3.10 pm each afternoon complying with child safety regulations.
