LEAD Visits Overport Primary

YEAR 5 LEADERSHIP WORKSHOP

On Wednesday 1 June, the LEAD students were lucky enough to go to Overport Primary School and conduct two workshops for the year 5 students, who may be wanting to take on a leadership role in grade 6:

1)  A Sports Activity Group

2) The Leadership Presentation Group

The LEAD students had a prepared presentation for the students on the qualities of leadership, which included some activities.  We explained what the definition of leadership meant to the LEAD class and then asked the students what qualities are important in a leader, for example: responsibility, understanding and optimism.

Students then made a game called ‘the quote game’, where all the students looked around the room finding their favourite quote.

The Year 5 students read them out and explained to the whole class why they had chosen that quote and what it meant to them. The students were also lucky to have Dylan – their school captain from 2013 – give them some tips and explained how the nomination works. They were all really interested in this information!

In the sports group, the LEAD students asked the Year 5 students to split into smaller groups and to make up a game.  The students had to write up the rules so the other groups can play the game.  The Year 5 students had 30 minutes and they used teamwork and communication skills and worked efficiently.

The LEAD class had a lot of fun working with their team and hopefully had provided the primary students with information on leadership.

VEGETABLE GARDEN WITH PREP STUDENTS

On Wednesday 25 May the Year 9 LEAD Class organized to go to Overport Primary School and work with the prep students in their vegetable garden.

We started off by being partnered up with one of the prep students, I was partnered up with a girl who was very excited but a little nervous.

Everyone split off in groups of two and we started on our jobs.  We started by helping our buddies shovel some dirt into wheelbarrows but it seemed that none of them wanted our help.  We had to make sure that the prep students didn’t get distracted or hurt because they were so curious.

We took a few photos, said goodbye to our buddies and headed back to school.

All of the LEAD class and the prep students really enjoyed our visit, which will hopefully spark an ongoing partnership between the two schools.

Report: Student Wellbeing

At Frankston High School, our student leaders of all year levels have been focusing on student wellbeing in hope that we can improve students experiences and so that we can all  feel at ease and comfortable in our school environment and our studies.  In this chapter of our lives some of us may feel as if we've been swallowed and consumed by stress, anxiety, sadness or fear.  Our goal is to ensure that everyone knows that they are not alone; someone is always there to help us conquer the hurdles and obstacles that face us.  We all have the ability to achieve big and live happily, all it takes is to notice potential in yourself and others to build up courage and strength and together as a community we can go above and beyond.  Seek and feel good, we are all set to succeed.

The Year 9 LEAD class have contributed by conducting surveys for students to share how they feel personally and emotionally at school.  With the results we received we can start working on our project. Our plan is to spread positivity and awareness amongst the school community.  We will achieve this by hanging up positive posters in high populated areas around the school yard.

As for spreading awareness, we will ensure that students can access different outlets and helplines, by also displaying the organisation’s posters and cards so that students can have these references.  We will also promote the school counsellors by putting up flyers that inform the location of their offices.

We want to enhance our student wellbeing and make school available for students to receive help and support, and to make our school environment, one we spend most of our lives in learning and creating experiences, a positive environment.
