Out and About

It's all Legal!
On Thursday 19 May, the Year 12 Legal Studies students were invited to the Frankston Magistrates’ Court for a discussion with Magistrate Tim Gattuso and Legal Aid lawyer Kristen Ayres.
We thoroughly enjoyed our experience and benefited greatly from the knowledge His Honour imparted while answering our questions. It provided insight into the intricacies of the Legal system from the point of view of a Magistrate and ex defence lawyer (His Honour also used to be a criminal defence lawyer).
As part of the experience we also got to see the cells and corridors that link the police station with the court. From there we were led back into the dock, the journey a remanded prisoner would make. A once in a lifetime experience we hope.

Maths Students 'Calculate' Their Way To CAS Success
On Monday 23 May, a group of enthusiastic and devoted Year 12 Maths students and staff attended the inaugural "Crouchie's CAS Classes" (CCC), a session where they learnt tips and tricks on how to make the most of their CAS (Computer Algebra System) calculators.
Every senior mathematics student owns a TI-nspire CAS calculator, which can be used to bring mathematics education into the 21st century. It makes maths a more dynamic subject and can help students visualise concepts in ways that were never thought possible. Frankston High School highly supports the effective use of these devices to help students calculate their way to success.
In this session, students learnt how to use CAS technology effectively to help an adventurer reach his camp in time, help build a bridge, road and supporting structures and help the construction of a train line over a valley and through a mountain.
We are confident that increased, effective and focused use of CAS technology and ICT in this way can help students conceptualise mathematics in new ways and boost results.
