Welcome to Week 4 of Term 2 2023

TCS Cross Country Win!!!

It is my pleasure to inform you that St Mary’s won the 13 – 19 years TCS Cross Country!

Congratulations to all our competitors and age champions.

Our College can be extremely proud of our students efforts and achievements. The St Mary’s TCS Cross Country team represented our College with pride and displayed outstanding behaviour and sportsmanship.

Students who placed in the top 8 will represent the TCS district at the Peninsula Cross Country to be held in Yungaburra on Tuesday 16th May.

Part of today’s win can be attributed to our College Run Squad and I would like to acknowledge the years of work of Mrs Clare Robertson and Mr Justin Brennen.

The Run Squad was established by Clare Robertson 6 years ago and began with a core group of year 7 students. Some of whom are our current year 12 students who ran on Tuesday. With Clare’s dedication and enthusiasm, the program grew and the need for an additional coach was required. This is when Justin Brennen joined Clare in leading this program.

Congratulations Clare and Justin for all the very early mornings, hours of training and volunteering your time to provide our students this opportunity. Enjoy the win!

A massive thank you the SMCC staff who volunteered their time to assist in convening the TCS Cross Country including our Maintenance team, Tuckshop and Administration. As well as our student helpers who assisted with the Carnival.

Extracurricular Sporting – Term 2

Rugby League: Year 11/12 Boys lead the way with a win!

The St Mary’s Year 9/10 Rugby League team played their first game against Cairns State High school on Wednesday. The team showed potential for the season and put in a great performance given our side had only 13 players. Our Rugby League coach, Mr Lee Slatcher stated,

“Our Year 9/10 team has a strong core of players who show great potential. We just need a few more boys to fill our side to help us succeed. We have a real chance with this group.”

If there are any year 9 or 10 boys who would like to become a part of our Rugby League program and join our Year 9/10 team, please see or email Mr Slatcher, lslatcher1@cns.catholic.edu.au

The St Mary’s Year 11/12 Rugby League team won their game against Cairns State High school on Wednesday. It was excellent to see the formations that the team has worked on during training sessions be executed in game situations. Congratulations on the win!

St Mary’s will be playing Bentley Park College on Wednesday 10th May at St Mary’s. We look forward to seeing you there to support our Rugby League teams.

Club Netball: SMCC White Snatch Their First Win!

The St Mary’s U14 netball team played their season opener against South Cairns Cutters on Tuesday night. It was an evenly matched game with the lead swinging between the two teams throughout the game. An impressive full court defence held Cutters back from scoring in the dying minutes of the game, securing a 1-point win to St Mary’s. Congratulations on the win!

TCS & Peninsula Paperwork Process

  1. Go to the TCS Sport tile in the Student Portal

  2. In the ‘Key Paperwork’ section print the ‘Notice of Trial’ information for your sport trial. These will be uploaded as soon as we receive them. If it is not there for your trial, check again soon or see the sport staff in the HOB staffroom.

  3. Complete the ‘Peninsula Student Permission Details Booklet’ immediately and bring it to the HPE staffroom for signing – paperwork needs to be submitted AT LEAST one week prior to the trial date. If it comes in later than this, we cannot guarantee that students will get it back in time for the trial which can result in them not being allowed to participate.

Students then need to report back to the HPE staffroom within 2 days to collect their signed paperwork and take the Peninsula Student Details Booklet with them to the trial
