SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

Summer Gala Day

SUMMER SPORTS GALA DAY

On Friday the 5th of May, the Senior students, along with a few students from Middles, attended the Summer Interschool Sports Gala Day at McDonnell Park. The students were able to participate in friendly sports matches in Tennis, Rounders and Cricket against other local schools in the area. A big thank you to Mr Zammit for his organisation in the lead-up to the event, Miss Lauren, Miss Sarah and Miss Brittany for supervising the students and Ross and Jannina who volunteered their time to help. A great day was had by all!

Tennis

The day started off at 9:30am. We were a bit confused at first because each court was split up into quarters but it ended up being fun because more people could play at once and you didn’t have to hit the ball as hard. We played two rounds of singles matches and one round of doubles matches against each school team. We first played against Fairfield, after that we played against Westgarth. Our last two rounds were against the two St Mary’s teams. It was a very fun experience because I got to have fun with all my friends and we played very well. We won 24 out of a total of 44 matches. It was good to have Hamish’s nan Janina and Miss Brittany because they were nice whether we won or lost.

Rounders

Rounders was very fun because it was very fair and we all got enough turns at batting and fielding. We had a girls team and a mixed team. The girls team was coached by Miss Lauren. We played three games and won all three against Westgarth, Penders Grove and Fairfield. The mixed team was coached by Ross (Elliot’s Dad). They lost their first game against Westgarth, but won their second two games against Penders Grove and St Mary’s. Overall I think that the Rounders teams did really well, but most importantly we had fun!

Cricket

We played four matches of Cricket. We played against Penders Grove, St Mary’s, Westgarth and Fairfield. We all got to have a turn at batting and bowling which meant we got to practise different skills. Although we lost every match, our spirits were high and we kept playing and had lots of fun. Millie got a 4 and I got some catches which was really exciting. Miss Sarah did a really good job of keeping us energetic and scoring the matches.
