Important Survey for Year 11 and 12 students

Schools are supported in their work around careers and pathways by a number of community-based partners, one of which is the INLLEN (Inner Northern Local Learning and Employment Network). The INLLEN runs the INYET (Inner Northern Youth Employment Taskforce), a working group that brings together schools, tertiary institutions, TAFE colleges, industry partners and local councils to develop strategies for improving employment outcomes for young people in this area. Inner Northern Melbourne actually has one of the highest unemployment rates for young people, so the work of the INYET is hugely important.

You can do your bit by encouraging anyone in Year 11 or 12 to complete this survey on work. The data being gathered aims to identify how people in this age group are engaging with various aspects of the world of work. Once completed, the information gained will be used to inform the next few years of work done by the INYET to ensure that all young people in Darebin, Moreland and Yarra are being catered for in terms of being able to prepare themselves for active participation in the workforce, at whichever entry point suits their personal circumstances. As one of the largest schools in this area, it is important that our voices form part of the data collection process. Thanks for your anticipated support with this.

ANU – new entrance procedures for 2020 courses

Earlier this year, we publicised some changes to ANU’s recruitment practices for this year.

Applications are now open, and close on May 31.

For students who wish to attend ANU next year, they should be lodging their application during this period directly through the uni’s website. It will still be possible to apply via UAC in the same way that Victorian uni applications are handled, but the university is not guaranteeing that all courses will still have places available at that time.

UCAT update – for students wishing to study medicine, health sciences, dentistry

The UCAT ANZ test has replaced UMAT (Undergraduate Medicine and Health Sciences Admission Test) for 2019.

Students who are planning to apply to Medicine, Dentistry and Health Science Courses commencing in 2020 at our Consortium Universities in Australia and New Zealand must sit the UCAT ANZ 2019 test in the month of July 2019.

The UCAT ANZ test is a 2-hour, computer-based test, multiple choice test. Candidates will sit the test at Pearson VUE test centres located in Australia, New Zealand and some overseas centres. For information about where test centres are offered, see Test Centre Locations.

Eligibility

The UCAT ANZ test is available to any candidate whose educational level at the time of sitting the test is their final year of secondary schooling, or higher. Candidates registering for UCAT ANZ 2019 should have already completed, or plan to COMPLETE their final year of secondary schooling in 2019 (i.e. Year 12 in Australia).

Students whose current educational level is Australian Year 11 or lower are NOT eligible to take UCAT ANZ. This includes Year 11 students undertaking one or more Year 12 subjects. Year 12 students completing Year 12 over two years are only eligible to sit UCAT ANZ in their final year.

Where do students register?

Registration and Booking are open now at the UCAT ANZ website and will close on 17 May 2019 at 11:59pm AEST (Australian Eastern Standard Time). Late registrations or bookings will not be accepted after this deadline.

Please note the following important information available at the UCAT ANZ website:

Free official UCAT practice materials are available at the website. Note the UCAT ANZ Consortium does not work with or endorse any commercial preparation providers offering UCAT preparation.

Candidate advice about how to approach the test and more is given under Practice Tests.

Work Experience for Year 10s

All students in Year 10 are expected to complete a work experience placement in Term 2 (May 13-17 - that’s Week 4). Each student is responsible for identifying a suitable placement, and liaising with employers to organise this. Taking ownership of this process assists young people in developing the skills and habits they will need to gain employment in later life.  The school will provide support through the Connect program, and we ask that families also get involved in this process. Download our tip sheets via the links below.
