Congratulations to Mikaila and Grace Young who recently competed in the State Little Athletics Championships. Grace came 3rd in the Under 16’s 1500m Walk and 5th in the 1500m Run and Mikaila achieved a 3rd in the 800m and 2nd in the 1500m runs.
The girls should be primed and ready for our Athletics and Cross Country season that starts in term 2.
Well done to our Senior Girls who played their second and final match against Uni High in the Premier League Soccer Competition on Monday 18 March. Although Uni High defeated us 3-1, our girls didn’t make their win an easy one. The girls have trained hard during this term and should be congratulated for their teamwork and dedication. We would like to thank Mr Prowse-Wilkins for running many early morning training sessions and coaching the girls on game days.
On March 19 we took 4 teams to Reservoir High School to play in the Darebin Divisional Competition. All teams played some competitive volleyball with our Boys A team coming away as overall winners on the day. The boys have now qualified to play in the Regional finals which are to be played in term 4. We would like to thank our wonderful student coaches Erin Gallagher, Alicia Chant, Lexi Mackey and Amelia Mensingh and also Mr O’Gorman, Ms Jacobs and Ms Barclay, for coaching the teams.
On Wednesday 20th March seven Year 8 boys competed in divisional tennis.
The Northcote A team consisted of David Sandberg, Claudio Costa-Tavares, Sascha Pereira and Ned Goodwin.
The Northcote B team consisted of Connor Hastings, Nicholas Kiriakidis and James Wickett. Only three boys competed due to Allister Arbuckle being forced to withdraw due to injury.
Both the Northcote teams were undefeated on the day.
Northcote A beat Lalor North by winning three of the singles and both the doubles. They then defeated Thornbury A in all four singles and both the doubles. The A boys then met their strongest competition in the Lalor team but here also prevailed, winning all six sets. This puts the boys through to the next round.
There were only two teams in the B pool. Due to there only been three boys they defaulted but still played. They won one doubles set and two singles.
A special mention to our number one player, David Sandberg, who won all three of his single sets 6 0 against the number one players of the opposing teams.
All the boys competed well and a great day was had by all.
Mr Neal
Well done to all of our yr 8 Volleyball teams who competed in the Divisional Competition which was held on March 22 at Reservoir High School. Our Boys A team narrowly missed out on winning the final against Thornbury.
Well done to all our students who competed at the Regional Swimming Carnival at Watermarc in Greensborough on March 27.
Once again it’s been a busy term 1 for the Sports Department. We would like to thank all of the Staff and Student coaches who have supported our program, helping out with training sessions and competition days. Congratulations to all teams and individuals who have competed for our school this term.
Next term we will be kicking things off early with State Swimming on 24th April (week 1) and our Athletics on May 2nd in Week 2.
Have a Happy and Safe Easter and Happy Holidays to all.
