Year 7 Claywork

Students in Year 7 Visual Arts have been working on some exciting clay creations. For many students, it is their first time working with clay.  The skills they have learnt include making a pinch pot, coil, and slab method to build their clay creature.

Initially, students designed their creatures in their art books, designing four mysterious creatures that included at least four different animals.  Students will paint their clay work with colourful glazes and all works will be on display at our CAPA Showcase evening in Week 5, Term 3.

Year 8 Street Art Excursion

On Thursday 20 May, students in Year 8 Street Art Elective attended the Casula Powerhouse and their first Paste Up workshop. After designing an image using Posca Pens and butcher’s paper, students then cut out their design and pasted their work on the tanks at Casula Powerhouse.

While at Casula Powerhouse, students engaged in a workshop with Matthew Peet (Mistery), graffiti writer and senior youth worker, on how to hold and use a spray can to achieve different effects.  Each student wrote the first letter of their name around the side of the tanks.

Following this, we visited Street University in Liverpool. The Street University is a youth development project created by the Ted Noffs Foundation which provides various community based services and interactive spaces for people aged 12 – 25. Students had a tour of the site and learnt about different opportunities offered there, including pathways to study, peer mentoring and creative workshops.

The Year 8 Street Art Elective Class will be working in collaboration with Matt Mistery over the next few weeks to develop a school mural and apply the stenciling and spray painting techniques they have learnt over the Semester.

Photography

On Monday,10 May, Miss Phan’s Year 9 and Ms Watson’s Year 11 Photography classes went on an excursion to Sydney CBD to photograph the urban landscape in unique and creative ways. We had a fun-filled day walking from Hyde Park, Circular Quay and caught the ferry to Cockatoo Island.

It was a picture perfect day travelling around Sydney and we can’t wait to see what these students create in the classroom.
