Principal's Message

Dear Parents/Carers,

COVID GUIDELINES.

Thank you for your support this week with adjusting to the COVID requirements. Today I listened to a Department webinar outlining operation guidelines until the 8th of May.

Next week it is important that we all adjust to the 1.5m spacing and hygiene measures when on the school grounds. This includes the wearing of a mask if going into a room. If you are outside, there is no need to wear a mask if socially distancing. Thank you for your understanding with this.

Our popular Mothers’ Day breakfast due to restrictions has been cancelled however the year two parents fundraising for the P&C have come up with a wonderful Yoga and Breakfast event to be held on the grass and art drying area at the back of the teaching block off Montreal Street. Mums attending this event need to have a mask if entering the Art room but outside if there is social distancing won’t need to have the mask on.

Our P&C meeting will be in the Library at 7:00pm on Wednesday and parents are asked to have a mask due to it being indoors.

CHARITY FUNDRAISER.

AS part of ROS our school will be supporting the work of St Pats Community Centre in Fremantle with the placing of a basket for cans and other non-perishable food donations. Our local Rotary group has placed baskets at 7 schools, 3 supermarkets and some chemists for the next month.

Posters will be up around the school.

We are encouraging families to donate an item or two and dropping them off at school.

The basket will be outside the office. Thank you in anticipation for your support of this local initiative.

OLYMPIC UNLEASHED PROGRAM.

With the Olympics coming up students from years 3-6 will have an exciting opportunity to meet an elite athlete who will visit the school and talk about topics like resilience. After the initial meeting there will be a follow up online event. A note regarding photo permission will come home shortly.

TERM PLANNER.

Coming home today is our term planner. A copy will also be placed on the school website.

CONGRATULATIONS.

Two of our staff have been selected to work with school staffs in schools at various times during Semester 2 for special department initiatives.

Mrs French will work alongside a team visiting schools to look at the progress made by schools with the National Quality Standards [NQS] for Kindergarten through to Year 2.

Ms Edmonds has been selected as a Curriculum Support Teacher [CST] visiting schools and running webinars supporting staffs with the release of new resources by the Education Department in the areas of HASS and Literacy.

I am sure you would join in with me to congratulate both staff on their achievement.

THANKS.

We are very fortunate to have a lot of support in our school.

Recently three of our parents put aside time to assist us.

Martin put together 6 new trikes that were jointly paid for by the school and P&C to be used in the Pre Primary.

Paul came in over the Break and recoated our Adventure Playground logs in the Pre Primary and Sensory Garden as well as our Friendship bench near the Covered Assembly Area.

Renae assisted by covering some of our new decodable reading books.

Our thanks go out for their assistance.

NEW CHAPLAIN.

You may have noticed a new face out and about at school. Eva Pipes has commenced as our new Chaplain on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Eva also works at South Lake PS. We welcome Eva to our school community and are excited to have her share her expertise with us.

FUN RUN.

Our Fun Run at the end of term 1 was a great event. Sponsorship forms went home to encourage students to collect donations or sponsorship for laps with any funds raised to go towards projects like our Yirra Yaarkin incursion, mural work and our entrance statement amongst many initiatives around the school.

If you have not yet forwarded money you have collected, you can either drop of the money to the office next week or pay directly online. Our BSB details are on the website and on the sponsorship form.

At the end of next week, we will have a draw of the returned forms/monies for spot prizes as well as calculate the two highest fundraising classes, one in the junior and the other in the older years so we can put on a Pizza Lunch for each of these classes. Thank you to those families who have already replied.

MUD KITCHEN.

We have a new addition in the Pre Primary in the form of a Mud Kitchen. It has been placed in the sand pit area. Our thanks to the Evans family in Pre Primary for nominating our school in the competition.

LIBRARY.

Thank you to Ms Gray in the Library for her time spent on putting together wonderful displays. These are really stimulating the student’s interest in reading on a number of themes.

REQUEST.

We would like to ask our families to assist us if walking their dog on the oval after hours and on weekends. Unfortunately, a number of the wider community are not taking their dog bags home, instead they are being left around the school and on the bitumen at the entrance on Hope Street.

If you notice anyone could you ask that they take these home for disposing. Thanks for your help with this.

PLAYGROUND USE AFTER SCHOOL.

All students must be under the supervision of their parents when released from class if going down to the playground to play.

The noise from playing around and near classrooms/buildings, Centennial garden and PP whilst staff are preparing for the next day can be reduced if parents at pick up move down to the oval area after a quick chat outside the class if the children want to play for a bit. Thanks for your understanding with this.

ANZAC.

Congratulations to the Year 3 students and their teachers led by Mrs Wells for the wonderful assembly conducted last week and to a former student, Gino for travelling across from Fremantle College to play the bugle. Congratulations also to Mrs Walker and the year 6 students who travelled to the City of Cockburn and joined the schools’ March to Beale Park and its memorial. One of our students, Juniper read one of the poems to 1300 students and guests and did a great job!
