FIRE Carrier News

Last week our 2021 FIRE Carrier leaders – Maeve, Evelyn, Conor and Jacob were commissioned.   The ceremony was held in the Senior  building  with many parents present.  Our leaders found out what it means to be a FIRE Carrier and some of the jobs they will be engaged in over the year.  Each student received a badge and certificate.

But what does it mean to be a FIRE Carrier?

Firstly, FIRE means - Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education.  Being a FIRE Carrier is not simply wearing a badge. When you become a FIRE Carrier you make a promise that you will work towards the goals of the Foundation (Opening the Doors Foundation) with a focus on reconciliation, turning people’s negative attitudes towards Aboriginal people into positive ones and raising awareness and educating our fellow students about our shared history.

Our new leaders also received a special blessing from our school community where they were asked to take pride in their new roles.

We ask our new leaders to care, respect and love all people just like Jesus cared for all people.

Social Justice News

Food in my tummy! Sox on my feet!

This term our Social Justice focus is St Vincent de Paul.

The aim of the St Vincent de Paul Society is to provide a means whereby members can live out Christian values – Vincentians do not attempt to preach or convert, nor do they attach any conditions to their aid – but they do practice love for their neighbour in the person of those in need.

The organisation is in desperate need of the following items for those less fortunate than ourselves:

  • Cereal
  • Long life milk
  • Up ‘n’ Go
  • Any food item with a ring pull such as tuna, baked beans
  • Muesli bars
  • Socks (large sizes ONLY) new only, not second hand

So, let’s all STEP UP and show how we can BE MORE by donating one or more of only these requested items to those living less robbed of the ability to make choices for themselves – the choice for safe and clean water, the choice of an education, the choice of protection from abuse, the choice of medical care and more.

Your generous donations may be placed in the donation box in your child’s classroom.

Loyo Elementary, Philippines - Shelter UPDATE

The shelter at our friendship school in the Philippines is coming along beautifully.  Marwen shared more photos this week and as promised here they are for you to see and feel proud and happy. We have all shown how we can STEP UP and BE MORE where needed for those less fortunate than ourselves. Thank You!

Many thanks for your continued support, generosity, patience, understanding  and words of encouragement.
