Mother’s Day Stall – Coordinator needed for 2022!
Time really does appear to be flying and May is literally around the corner which means Mother’s Day will soon be here. Organisational arrangements are again underway for a Mother’s Day Stall this year which we missed having last year due to Covid.
This is one of our annual ‘events’ that I know our students look forward to each year, as well as being an opportunity for parents to volunteer to assist with the stall on the day and have that engagement in a community event.
Whilst logistics are still being finalised, I am putting out a call for an Expression of Interest in the school community for a parent (or two) to take over the coordination of the Mother’s Day Stall next year in 2022. We are very fortunate to have Greta Trent coordinating the stall this year which she has done for several years now. Now, would be a great opportunity for an interested coordinator in the making to shadow Greta to see what the role entails, in readiness for the following year.
If you are interested please get in contact with myself. Look out for promotions and communications around this event in the very near future.
Parent Class Representatives
Thank you to tall those parent volunteers who have taken on the role of Class Representative for 2021. I know that the reps were busy creating the Social Contact List in the last week of term and this week. Hopefully, there may have been an opportunity to create a play date over the term holidays or there will be this term.
Remember making social connections are not just for the kids they are for the entire school community. It is always lovely to hear of parents talking about long time and new friendships they have made with other families from Oakleigh PS.
Parent Information Evening: Literacy at OPS
This Thursday, 22nd April, Michelle Di Giovanni (Junior School Learning Specialist and MSL Tutor) and Cathy Wright (Year 1 Class Teacher and Literacy Leader) will be conducting a presentation on how Reading is taught at Oakleigh in the junior school. The presentation will include how reading is explicitly taught; the MSL approach to learning how to read, write and spell; supporting reading at home; and volunteering in the classroom during a Literacy session.
This event will be held in the school library at 6.30pm and it will also be broadcasted live through Webex. Please refer to Compass for log in details.
