Principal's Message

Liam Buckley

Heavenly Father,

St Joseph set aside his own plans

to embrace your dream for us.

You invited his help in caring for

Jesus your Son, our Saviour,

and the Revealer of your wonderful love.

Enable us to live by your loving plan

and to reflect to the world the light of Christ.

St Joseph, man of dreams and trusting steward, pray for us.

Dear Families

Welcome back for another term of learning. I trust that your Easter holidays were well spent with family and perhaps a little bit of relaxation.

We've got a busy term ahead as always, so please keep checking in with the newsletter and our website for updates to diary dates and announcements. We do our best to keep you up to date with all that is happening, but things can change.

'Junior Joeys'

We're excited to begin our first Junior Joeys school experience this coming Wednesday (28th April).  Bu Watts will be kicking things off with an art activity for the visiting families to enjoy. We will integrate a story in there too. If you know of anyone interested in coming along, then please share the details via social media or by word of mouth.

Thank you to Dane Flighty for designing the Junior Joeys logos.

School Review

Every 4 years Catholic schools are externally reviewed to ensure compliance and quality assurance. Next week our review process commences. Some parents will be invited to meet the reviewers and provide feedback about St Joseph's.

Class Reps

We will communicate early next week about Class Reps. Thank you to those parents who have volunteered. Each class has 2 reps and will be announced via our Parent Ambassadors next week.

This term all classes will be firing up their Seesaw accounts, for families to view as an insight into what is happening in classrooms for the remainder of the year.

Your child(ren) will be bringing home a QR code in the next week for you to access their portfolios. If you haven't got the app already, please download the Seesaw Family app (which is different from the one used in the juniors during remote learning) so that you can see all the wonderful work your child has done throughout the term.

Reminder: the Seesaw app will not be used as a 2-way communication platform for parent-teacher communication. We would prefer that correspondence is still via email - thank you.

Individual Sporting Achievements

Diving

Ocienne from Year 5/6 represented St Joseph's in the Regional Diving Competition and qualified for the state competition. Amazing!!

Cricket

Will from Year 5/6 tried out for the School Sports Victoria state cricket team last week too. Will was among 800 other children trialling and has successfully made it to the next round!

Well done to both Ocienne and Will on your progress in two fiercely contested competitions/trials. You're making us so proud.

HOLT Soccer Lightning Premiership

Today some of our 3/4s and our 5/6 children went to Caulfield Park to compete in the HOLT District Lightning Premiership.

With some helpful coaching by Mr. Buckley, Mrs Phyland and some wonderful parent helpers the teams did incredibly well against much bigger schools. The girls team played three games and each girl played every minute of each game and were very competitive. The boys did extremely well winning all four games and narrowly losing in the Grand Final 2-1.

Thank you to the amazing support from the parents that were there.

Tennis Coaching

Please respond to the Operoo that was sent on Thursday if you are interested in morning tennis coaching. We have Daniel who is very interested to replace Mark and we are hoping to commence lessons ASAP. The cost will be comparable to what Mark was charging and we will be in touch early next week once Daniel knows the level of interest.

Performing Arts

I am thrilled to welcome Tess Sabbatucci on board as our PA teacher for 2021.

SHREK Jr preparations will begin in earnest next Friday! Tess will be working with all the students every Friday.
