Harmony Day

Costumes, competitions and creativity

Cultural celebrations

On Monday, 22 March St Norbert College staff and students join together in a celebration of the huge diversity of nationalities that make up our College. Special thanks to Fr Peter who conducted the Liturgy, which was followed by the national costume parade. We also had a multicultural quiz and paper doll competition where students have to decorate the paper doll in traditional costumes. Students and staff had their food ordered from one of the following cuisines: Mexican, Vietnamese, Singapore & Malaysian, Italian, Middle Eastern and Japanese for their lunch.

I think Harmony Day was really well planned. The food was really good I liked all the different types of food there were. I think the assembly was good, however I wish we could play little games that come from different cultures that would be really fun to do. I also think we should have added some activities in class to do. But apart from that, I really liked how the day was. I liked all the different clothes people wore and I liked to hear where people come from.

Lucas Young Free (Year 7 - M7)

Harmony day was a great time as everyone was in a community.  People kept asking me where my traditional costume was from and there was a lot of pictures. I loved how people dressed up in costumes and had a great time. The only downside was I couldn't walk that well as the material in the skirt is not very stretchy. All in all, I enjoyed Harmony Day the best.

Emmeline Adiguna (Year 7 - P)

I woke up all excited for harmony day because I got to wear a gold Indian outfit and feel pretty for the day. I went to school and the first thing we did in homeroom was a culture quiz, when Miss Muir said the question, “Which culture is this?”, as soon as I heard dynamite from BTS, (a K-pop group) I shot my hand up because I had known straight away who it was, the rest of my friends giggled. Next the assembly, it was quite fun because after the celebration, we did a small parade and my friends and I got to walk down the middle of everyone. So, I would say that it was quite a memorable day.

Mikayla Lines (Year 8 - T6)

The day started off with a homeroom kahoot all about different cultures. It was very fun, especially when everyone participated. We then attended the harmony day liturgy where we had the choir sing a few different songs and people from different cultures talked about their culture, which was very informative. It then ended with lunch, which you could order foods from different countries. I enjoyed an Italian pizza, it was delicious :)

Caylee Fitzgerald (Year 8 - M2)

I think that my harmony day was extraordinary. It was amazing especially the food that they served, they have really included other cultures and celebrate their culture. The parade where people wore clothes of their ethnic background, was really fun, as I was able to see the beautiful and colourful clothes of their culture and country.

Claire Decena (Year 8 - K4)

I think that my harmony Day experience was great! I thought that is was so amazing how everyone got to share their culture with the school. The food from every culture was delicious and I cannot wait until next year's Harmony Day.

Scarlett Tirtajaya (Year 8 - M5)

On harmony day I wore my sports uniform with my House shirt MAGDEBURG! and harmony day was very fun. I loved watching the assembly and the parade. I got some nice food and drinks and I really enjoyed it.

Elise Magnussen (Year 8 - M2)

Harmony day this year was very fun and many really enjoyed it. The one thing I loved the most was the parade. During the liturgy I was one of the people to read a part. My part was reading one of the prayers of the faithful. The food at lunch was really good and the drinks were delicious. :)
