Learning beyond the classroom

Costa on placement at a Martial Arts academy

Structured Workplace Learning placements

As part of the VCAL program at Northcote, students complete a range of Structured Workplace Learning placements. These placements provide a fantastic opportunity for students to practice the skills they are learning at school and VET in an authentic setting and gain an understanding of different contexts within their industry.

Over the break I had the pleasure of visiting some of our Year 11 VCAL students on placement: Costa, who was helping to run classes and sign up members at a Martial Arts academy, and Daniel who was working with Conservation Volunteers Australia to maintain several sites around Melbourne. We also had Maivia applying his skills in timber finishing with a furniture maker. The students returned tired but proud on Monday, having received fantastic feedback from their workplace supervisors.

If you would like to know more about the VCAL program at Northcote or would like to discuss hosting a student for a Structured Workplace Learning placement, please get in touch.
