Year 3 News

Year 3  participated in ANZAC Day activities last week to commemorate ANZAC Day. In Assembly, we all talked about ANZAC Day, listened to ‘The last post’ and had a minute silence to remember all those brave people that fought in all wars to save our country.

In class, we made some poppies and pinned them on our chest with some Rosemary. We coloured in some leaves and poppies to create a class wreath. We watched Youtube videos, read informational texts and read the book ‘Lest we forget’ to extend our knowledge on what ANZAC day is and why we celebrate this special day. I showed the class some photos of my Pop who fought in World War 2 and when he would lead the ANZAC march in Gundagai holding the Australian Flag.

Some students have made contributions about what they know about ANZAC DAY.

Hazel

ANZAC Day is the day that we remember those who died in the war. These people sacrificed their life for us. We respect them by doing one minute of silence. We wear a poppy to show respect.

Emma

ANZAC Day is on the 25th of April. We celebrate and respect the people who fought for us by standing silently for 1 minute. These people saved our country. Australia were on the same team as England.

Evana

ANZAC Day is on the 25th of April and we celebrate it every year. The soldiers who fought for us were protecting us and some of them died. We remember them and respect them by standing silently for 1 minute. We also wear a poppy and rosemary on our shirts.

Fletcher

ANZAC Day is celebrated on the 25th of April. On a ANZAC Day we march down the main street and that’s how the Army people walked together. Australia has allies and fought for each other’s countries.

Stuti

ANZAC Day is celebrated on the 25th of April. We remember and respect them by putting a poppy on our chest and having 1 minute of silence. World War 1 started in 1914 and finished in 1918.

Will

Poppies are a symbol for the people that died in the war.

Javier

On ANZAC Day we remember those who died for us in the war. My Great Great Grandfather fought in the war with his brother and they both survived.

Jack M

We remember the people who fought and died for us in the war.

Thomas

We remember those who have passed away in the war. We celebrate this day to remember the soldiers who went to war to fight for us and protect us.

Eliza

If these people didn’t go to war to fight for us, we wouldn’t be here. We have ANZAC Day to remember those people who went to war to fight for us and our freedom.
