Prayer

Happy Founders Day! Today we celebrated the Feast Day of Blessed Edmund Rice. We joined together to celebrate the legacy that our great Founder, Blessed Edmund Rice, has impacted on our world for over 200 years. At St Pius X College alone, we have been served by 166 Brothers who have been the torch bearers of Edmund Rice’s original passion and today our Staff embrace this role to continue the Edmund Rice tradition so that our young men are the inheritors of these rich traditions.

Our most esteemed Old Boy, College Archivist and Christian Brother, Brother Carl Sherrin, celebrated the occasion with us by speaking at our Assembly. Br Carl spoke of his early days as a student of our College and being taught by an Irish Christian Brother. He then spoke in admiration of our young men of the pride they demonstrate in everything they do, as they are the inheritors and the new torch bearers of the original passion of Blessed Edmund Rice.

O God, we thank you for the life of Edmund Rice.

He opened his heart to Christ present

in those oppressed by poverty and injustice.

May we follow his example of faith and generosity.

Grant us the courage and compassion of Edmund

as we seek to live lives of love and service.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.

Blessed Edmund Rice, Pray for Us

St Pius X, Pray for Us

Live Jesus in our Hearts, Forever

Amen.

I share with you below a special Feast Day message from the National EREA Council.

 New Prefects

At our Feast Day Assembly today, it was very fitting that we appointed four new College Prefects, Nathan Byrne, Austin Cleary, Joshua Jones and Luka Krizan. These four men have demonstrated great service and continual commitment to the College. They are tireless workers in many and varying activities from boxercise, well-being, debating and academic leadership. They are true men of the Edmund Rice tradition who proudly join the ranks of our Senior Student Leaders of 2021.

P&F Meeting

The P&F Meeting was held totally in person for the first time in over 12 months last Monday night at the College. All certainly enjoyed gathering together at the College in our newly renovated Biology Laboratory. I thank the P & F for their ongoing support of our College and for all of the Pius community.

Mother’s Day

We wish to thank all our mothers

for their love and understanding

and for always being there.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY

We look forward to once again welcome our Mothers, Grandmothers and Carers to celebrate Mother's Day on Friday morning with an early morning liturgy and light breakfast in the School Gymnasium. Breakfast will be available from 7.15 am (please note the change of time), with the Liturgy commencing at 8.00 am.

Following from the morning liturgy and breakfast, at 10.30 am on Friday, our Junior School invites all their Mothers and Grandmothers to join with their sons for the Mother’s Day Mass in Our Lady of Dolours Church, followed by Refreshments in the Junior School Playground. I look forward to again seeing parents in the College to celebrate this special occasion.

Visit from Mercy nuns

On Monday the College hosted three Mercy nuns who were staff at Mercy College and taught at Pius in the co-ed senior instruction years of the '70s and '80s.  After leaving Mercy College, the nuns moved to Peru where they set up a Women's Centre and Refuge in Candela.

Each year the College supports the refuge as Mrs Mary Rajca (from the Mission Heritage Centre) holds a stall selling items the women in Candela make by hand. We are pleased again to hold the stall on Friday morning so the students can purchase a gift for their mothers for Mother's Day.

I thank Tony Cunneen for organising this gathering as we keep the memories of our history alive. Thank you especially to Ronan Crispe and Ben Cullen from Year 11, along with Ms Judy Black, Mr Ross Masters and Mr Sean Brannan for helping to host our special visitors.

Twilight Concert 13 May

Next Thursday, 13 May, we are very pleased to hold our first Twilight Concert of the year, once again welcoming parents to watch the concert in person.  The concert commences at 4.00 pm and parents are able to remain in the audience for the entire concert.  The concert will feature our Strings, Guitars, Orchestra and the Primary Concert Band.  The Senior Choir is also excited to be able to once again perform.

A Trybooking link to book seats has been released - please see the Performing Arts section of this Woodchatta to book for up to two adults (siblings of performers are welcome to attend and do not need to book seats).
