LIBRARY

This fortnight we have been excited to launch the 2021 Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) across the College. The aim of the Challenge is to encourage young people to read for both leisure and  pleasure. In the Library we are keen to support our students to embrace opportunities to discover new authors and titles, and to enjoy a wide and varied reading experience.

To this end, we are fortunate to have a comprehensive physical collection in the Dr Ian Grant Library for students to choose from. Fiction books are arranged according to genre, enabling the browsing experience to be more efficient and engaging for students. Of course the Library Homepage can also be used to search for specific titles, authors, series and subjects, and the Library staff is always very happy to help.

We are also very fortunate to have access to a comprehensive e-Library that currently contains over 5,000 items, including both e-books and audiobooks. The collection has material for both our Junior School and Senior School students. In the coming weeks we look forward to helping our youngest students access this excellent resource. Searching the eLibrary is easy and students can quickly see the eBooks that feature on the Premier’s Reading Challenge, relevant to their year group category.

Another helpful link for students completing The Premier’s Reading Challenge is the PRC student site itself which can be found at:

https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/studentExperience.html#/

Using the PRC site allows students to discover new books to read. By selecting the appropriate Year group and then clicking “Discover” students can see which books are on the official PRC list. It is also possible to search the site according to popular genres, helping students find the book that is the perfect fit for them. The requirements for each Year group can be found on this website, including how many books need to be read to complete the challenge. Senior school students who have their username and password from last year can also log on to their PRC account from this site.

We encourage students with questions about the 2021 Premier’s Reading Challenge or utilising the College e-Library to approach the Library staff at any time. Happy reading!
