HEAD OF JUNIOR SCHOOL

What makes our Junior School so wonderfully unique is the many firsts that we are lucky enough to experience. Year 2 refer to our learners as pioneers, which beautifully describes our College community. We are innovative, willing to try new things and excited to explore new ways of learning. Our students are feeling a sense of achievement, since overcoming the enormous challenge of stepping out of their comfort zone to start a new school and we couldn’t be prouder.

I would like to congratulate some of our eldest pioneers who are on our inaugural Junior School Leadership Team:

For these students and their families, 2021 will forever have an added special element. Their first important task for the team was to decide on the design of the Year 6 Souvenir Jersey. They enjoyed being part of the decision-making process with Mattina at the Uniform Shop. Our leaders’ next major responsibility is to coordinate the Junior School assemblies and I have no doubt that they will do a remarkable job of this.

At The Riverina Anglican College, we encourage our students to play by providing them with structured playtime throughout the day. Last week, students enjoyed exploring their new playground and play equipment. Our teachers thoroughly enjoyed observing students actively in imaginative play on the giant ship. Whilst the students participated in unstructured play they were able to explore, socialise, build resilience and be active.

Parent partnership strategies at the Junior School align with the philosophy of the Reggio Emilia approach to education, which is an inclusive, village-style approach that engages children, parents and the community as all being essential components to the learning process. Hence, the launch of the parent-led learning initiative. Rather than second-guessing what our parents and community would like to engage in, we encourage parents to lead learning activities through their passions, industry experiences, interests and areas of expertise. ‘Parent-Led Learning’ activities will be implemented across classes to enhance the existing curriculum. The College looks forward to connecting with our families through these authentic learning opportunities.
