Science News

Welcome to Science at Greenvale Primary School for 2021. Each year 3-6 class will have Science once in each semester this year. Our Semester One focus is Biological Science which is understanding the study of living things.

Our topics for Semester One focus on:

Year 3/4 - Living Things

The students will explore living, once living and non-living things. They will also focus on the life cycles of plants and animals. There is an environmental focus investigation on how to improve biodiversity within our school grounds.

Mission to Mars

The students will learn about the survival and adaptations of living things. They will explore and investigate the possibility of colonising Mars in the future. The students will take off, land and rove on the surface of Mars and design an organism capable of living on Mars. They will conclude the unit of work with an opinion about whether or not colonising Mars will become a reality.

Student Achievement - Setayesh 56W

Last year, Setayesh entered the 2020 scienceXart: Spot the Maths Competition. The Australian Academy of Science hosted scienceXart: Spot the maths which was a photographic competition for school students of all ages.

Setayesh entered the competition with 3 different photographs and her entry based on concentric circles saw her win first place in the Year 4 to 6 category.

“When the rain drops touch the water they make waves that gradually get bigger. Rain drops hit the lake and make lots of little concentric circles in the water. Some of the circles are overlapping because the rain drops were closer together.”

Well done to Setayesh on this amazing achievement!
