Premiers Reading Challenge

Every year our learners participate in the Premiers Reading Challenge (PRC).

It was introduced in 2004 and is designed to encourage children to enjoy reading and ultimately improve their literacy skills.

It requires our learners to read 12 books from the beginning of the year to early September.

The challenge has begun, and classes are talking about books they are reading or want to read.

In our library, we have a designated PRC board to acknowledge when our learners have completed the challenge. This year it follows the book week theme of ‘New world, old worlds, other worlds’ through the eyes of Dr Suess’ famous quote ‘oh the places you’ll go’. Learners are visiting lots of different places through their reading, it might be fictional or non-fictional.

Foundations, year 1 and 2 classes are completing it as a class. They are reading in their classroom and in the library.

Years 3-6 are completing the challenge individually.

For more information, please visit the SA PRC page.

Confirmation Classes

Confirmation is a wonderful time for young people to grow in their faith and develop their understanding of who they are in Christ. Confirmation classes will begin mid Term 2. These classes will run until the end of 2022, meeting fortnightly in term time. Please let Pastor Greg know if you wish to enroll

Walk My Way

Members of our Golden Grove Lutheran Community (both school and church in partnership) are taking part in the Walk My Way fundraising challenge in the Barossa Valley on Saturday 1 May.

Walk My Way gives us the chance to join people around Australia in a 26km walking challenge (with 5km and 13km options as well).

The walk recognises the long, dangerous journey refugees must take to find safety - and helps to raise money to help send refugee children to school at the same time!

You can volunteer to participate, or donate, or both via the link below!

https://barossa.walkmyway.org.au/.../GoldenGroveLutheranC...

Each $26 we raise can support a refugee child in East Africa go to school for a whole year, helping to provide a teacher, textbook, and a table.

The Australian Lutheran World Service (ALWS) is the overseas aid and resettlement agency of the Lutheran Church of Australia. ALWS takes our support there through our LWF team (Lutheran World Federation) and the UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees).

Mother's Day Stall

A variety of gifts can be purchased for $5 per gift - please register and pay for the number of gifts you require via the Qkr! app or place money in an envelope including your child/children's name, class, and the number of gifts and hand it to the front office by COB Wednesday 5 May.

Option to have your child's name embroidered on hats

There is an opportunity for parents to have their child's name embroidered on their school hat. There is a charge for this and payments can be made via Qkr! At the end of this term, we will export the list of students and give it to the teachers who will collect their hats at home time on the last day of Term 1. These will then be handed back to students on the first day of Term 2. If you decide to take up this offer, please ensure your child's name is clearly marked inside their hat.

Easter Week (from P & F)

The P & F have arranged a number of activities for the students to participate in over Easter week.

Request from 1/2S Art

Out 1/2S are designing some art to go around the school. If you have any plastic bottles (i.e 2L coke bottles ) with the large grooves in the bottom, could you please send them to the office in clean condition for us to use? We would also like the lids or lids from milk bottles etc as well.

Thanks,

Cloe Richardson

Music Lessons

Learning through Music offer private music tuition through the school and their qualified music tutors are on site each week to offer one on one music lessons in an instrument of your child’s choice for a small weekly fee. We already have a number of students who have taken up this opportunity, but would like to remind families of this opportunity. We are particularly hopeful that some of our children might like to begin learning a woodwind or string instrument which may help us in then offering small ensemble groups or adding to a possible school band in the future. If you are interested you could contact Learning Through Music on 0401 398 120, via their website ltmusic.com.au or via email at info@ltmusic.com.au

School Band

We are excited to announce that there is an opportunity to express interest in our School Band as we are looking to expand our music program at the school this year. Larry, one of our music tutors from Learning Through Music, the company which currently offers our peripatetic music instruction, is able to conduct the band.

As a first step, we are seeking expressions of interest to ensure that we have enough students and a good variety of different instruments to start a band. Your child may already be learning or playing an instrument, or they may be interested in taking one up. Either way, they would be welcome to join our school band. We anticipate at this stage that the cost of band lessons will be $40 per week.

Please register your interest in our school band by Friday 26 March.

Welcome Picnic

Friday 26 March from 4 pm – 7 pm on the GGLPS Oval.

The picnic is an occasion to welcome new families to the school as well as welcome in the new school year together as a community. Grab a blanket and bring a picnic and drinks. Come and catch up with friends, old and new. Relax on the oval while the kids enjoy a climbing wall (separate registration required) and shoes required, bungee run, Tiki obstacle course, and other activities. If you don't want to bring a picnic there will be a bbq (cash required). We hope to see you there - don't forget to pre-register on the school website and scan in using the QR code on the day which will be provided at the courtyard gates and on the oval gate.

Youth Group

The next event is the Egg Hunt on 9 April. Please contact Joel Schiller on 0411 084 071 if you would like to attend.

Foundation Enrolments

During this term and early next term, Mr Wallace will be conducting enrolment interviews for new families who have applied to enroll for Foundation, either in our mid-year intake this year or for the 2022 school year. We provide priority entry to siblings if we have an application for them in our files. If you are a current Golden Grove family and have not yet completed an enrolment form for your younger child, or would like to check if you have returned your enrolment form please ask at the school office or check with Tanya Wilson wilson.tanya@goldengrove.sa.edu.au as soon as possible. We have strong interest from a number of new families for both intakes and have begun holding interviews already.

Volunteer Training

Volunteer Training is required for parents and carers who would like to be involved in specific school activities like camps, excursions, learning assistance, coaching sporting teams, and any other similar type of activity which involves supervision of students.

Please refer to our volunteer's page on the school website about the process of obtaining a working with children check and valuing safe communities training as part of this process.
