Last week saw some important developments at MCS. We have been notified that we are a Premier’s Priority School for lifting educational standards of our indigenous students. This will mean that staff will be working closely with the Yvonne Hill and Allan Hall who are Senior Education Officers delivering Aboriginal Pedagogy Courses in NSW Department of Education Schools. We have already embarked on a training course with Yvonne and Allan and look forward to working closely with them throughout the year as we continue to improve our ability to care for our indigenous students.
The AGM for MCS Parents and Citizens Association was held on Monday 8th March at the Wellbeing Hub. It was great to see so many interested parents at the meeting to have a tour of the Wellbeing Hub and hear about plans for its use throughout the year. I would like to welcome Emma Chrystall and Netta Lee onto the P&C Committee in roles supporting Sal Lapins, who will continue as President, Nic Brazier, who will continue as Secretary, Belinda Thurtell will remain as our Treasurer and Maritsa Karamina has kindly stepped in to manage the clothing pool for the P&C.
We had a visit from the Minister for Education last week. The Hon Sarah Mitchell MLC – Minister for Education and Minister for Early Childhood Learning and the Hon Sam Farraway MLC visited the school to look over two areas that the Government has assisted at the school level. They visited the Out of School Hours (OOSH) which will soon be operational offering out of school hours day-care. This will provide up to 45 spaces to assist parents around Molong who need such care for their children . The facility will also provide a space for MCS to use through the day for activities with our students.
The second area of interest was the grassed bank between the courts and primary school. This will be developed into a terraced play area with a co-grant from the Government providing us with improved play areas which will benefit our school for years to come.
Our Captains acted as guides for the visit and did an outstanding job in caring for the Minister. While here, the Minister took the opportunity to visit some classrooms. She visited Kinder Orange, 5 Red, Year 7 Science and Year 11 Chemistry. She involved herself with the classes and made all feel at ease. I would like to thank all involved with the visit, for the extremely positive impression you gave of our beautiful school.
