Science class has been very active during the first term of the year with various practical and theoretical reports being completed by students across all year levels. The year 9 science class has been learning about ecosystems and how different factors can rapidly change them. As part of our study on this topic we carried out some field work in Victoria park which was both a welcome change to the lab and provided students with an opportunity for practical interaction with the biomes around them.

The year 8 science class has been occupied with a good deal of cellular biology during the first term and has recently started work on the human circulatory system. As part of our study in this area students were required to dissect a sheep’s heart and identify its various chambers and valves.

Year 11 and 12 Biology has been focused mainly on protein synthesis and enzyme activity of organic substances. The stage 2 biology class has successfully completed its first practical which involved the digestive enzyme pepsin being used to break down egg whites in various solutions. Meanwhile the Stage 1 biology class has successfully demonstrated the process of Osmosis through a semi-permeable membrane during our potato core practical.

Senior psychology is currently working through a research project on the different forms of persuasion and how it is possible to convince others when presenting a viewpoint or argument. As a class we have also been working on our practical skills and have successfully implemented some persuasive strategies around the school.
