Year 7:

Lots has happened in Term one and, I wanted to briefly mention the amazing job the Year 7’s did at the swimming carnival 2 weeks ago!  It was great to see students participating at their first LSC carnival.

For students and families, progress reports have now been published on Compass and you should look over them and ask questions if there is anything you are not sure of.

Camp has been rescheduled!

Students who initially were not attending camp but have changed their mind and now want to go to should collect letters from the office and discuss this with parents and organise payment accordingly. I'm pleased to see some who were apprehensive, now want to come along. Camp is a great way to build new friendships, collaborate in team activities and try new things whilst having some fun!

Year 8:

It’s almost the end of term 1 and what a busy term it has been. The Year 8 Students have settled well into their classes and are engaging with the curriculum. We have seen relationships between students strengthen along with developing positive relationships with teachers. Lots of students are being recognised for their positive behaviour and this is being communicated to parents via compass.

Recently the college appointed its new leaders in various areas and we look forward to the team working with and for the students in the effort of giving students more voice and agency within the college. As a school we hope that the leaders will demonstrate our college values and have a positive impact on the school environment. We will be holding a whole school assembly next week to present their badges and introduce them formally to the school community.

The Year 8 students were huge contributors in the swimming carnival which was a huge success with a great student turnout and lots of participation across the college.

Congratulations to all the students who performed well and the ones who moved on to the next district level.

The 15th of March sees us begin, Harmony Week which celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. It’s about inclusiveness, respect and a sense of belonging for everyone. The Year 8 student have been involved in an assembly which unpacks the importance of Harmony Week and how it applies to our college.

Year 9:

I cannot believe we are nearing the end of Term One. How quickly has it gone? Apart from a slight interruption to normal classes (3 days of remote learning back in February), students have settled in well back to face to face learning. The Year 9 Sub School have been learning about Resilience and Persistence through two guest speakers at our Monday Assemblies.

Bhavi Devchand, an Australian all round women’s cricketer, spoke to the students about her struggles as a female athlete and what she has had to overcome to achieve success. Peter Bol, an Australian Olympian, spoke to our students about being knocked down, but never giving up on your dreams. He spoke about persisting with your dreams, but always having a back up option. Peter spoke about the importance of education, and even though he is representing Australia at the Olympics, he is most proud of completing his university degree. Peter has agreed to come back to our College, in Term Four, to show us his gold medal that he plans to win at the Tokyo games. We can’t wait to see him again and wish him all the best in Tokyo!

Senior  School:

As we approach the end of term one the senior end is in full swing and all students should be congratulated on how well they are all working and engaging. We held the VCE Information Night on 25th February via a live stream, which had a great turn out and received very positive feedback from both students and parents.

Over the past two weeks the Senior Team has been meeting individually with all Year 12 students to hold a mentor style meeting to discuss progress, academic results, pathways and individual goals. The meetings also give the Senior Team to discuss strategies to best support each student so they can be successful this year.

SACs have commenced for a number of subjects, please ensure parents and students are taking the time to review these on Compass and noting feedback. Students can use this to identify point of need for each area of study and be proactive in where focus areas should be placed for future assessments.

The VCAL program has had two camps (Year 10 and Year 11) with our Year 12’s excitedly going next week. The VCAL program has also had the Fit2Drive program come out to deliver information regarding road safety and accident prevention.

The program noted how rewarding it was to see students who were engaged in the entire day.

Students are reminded we have free tutoring being offered on Wednesdays afternoon and Monday lunchtimes in D7 if and when needed. For more information please see a member of the Senior Team.
