Work Experience 2021 - Year 12 Meetings - Work Expo

Work Experience with Police Victoria

In 2020 I secured a Work Experience Placement with the Victorian Police, fortunately when Work Experience was cancelled last year I was able to hold onto this placement and I did Work Experience in March 2021 as a year 11 student.

During this week I toured the buildings and police areas of Prahran Police station, including the watch tower which is the store holding of equipment, the holding cells, interview rooms and the crime investigation unit. The station reception was full of cctv screens that kept watch all over the city, these were used to investigate potential crimes and could pick up passing cars.

I travelled in a police unit to some non-threatening jobs, one job included a flipped car and the police were investigating the scene of an accicdent. I got to check out the highway patrol cars and the awesome technology that is used to detect regos, either suspended or stolen. I got to meet 'The Drone Man' who has a massive and very expensive drone that can fly over houses to observe and to help with search warrants. The crime investigation unit took me through thier collection of evidence photos, fingerprints that had been discovered in previous crimes. The Division response unit are the team who follow up on search warrants, who showed me some of the items retrieved on the job.

I really enjoyed my work experince at Prahan Police station, all the Police officers were very friendly and encourageing. They were great people to have a converstation with about my pathway in police work. I will need to finish year 12 and turn 18 before I can apply to the police academy. I will also need to gain some life experience in the work force and in the community and undergo several health, fitness and background checks before I can be accepted on to the force. I had an awesome week!
