VCAL Happenings
What a big few weeks in VCAL!
Our applied learning Senior students have been very busy this term, as well as TAFE and work duties they have been serving up sausages and raising funds. Beau Vernon inspired our Senior VCAL students to uplift their positive mindset, just as he did with Intermediate VCAL on camp. Young Workers Centre came to discuss working rights, working
conditions and pay scales. YWC work to prepare VCAL students for the workforce, teaching them to negotiate with employers. Our Seniors participated in a 2 day 'Job Camp' earning certrificates in Food Handling, Barista Services and Responsible Service of Alcohol.
On the 2nd of March, the year 12 VCAL class ran a sausage sizzle in the main Canteen Courtyard. We did this to raise money as a Year 12 VCAL project to put money back into the program for field trips.
My personal highlight of the day was cooking the sausages the whole time and enjoying the day with the class. We overcame the challenge of trying to keep up with the demand and also trying to keep the electric barbecues on when they kept shutting off.
I learned how to cook all the sausages quickly and safely when the queue of customers kept getting bigger. I think that the day was a success.
As a class we performed really well under pressure and co-operated very well together, for example when the cashiers were finding out how far off the cooked sausages were.
I think that the class grew closer to each other and better friendships were made and the class bond grew greater amongst us. We were really grateful that the school community came to support us by purchasing their food from the sausage sizzle instead of bringing lunch or going to the school canteen.
