PwC's Higher Apprenticeship Program for VCE students

Last week, several VCE students, alongside other local Victorian high school students, attended an information session at PwC Melbourne to learn more about PwC's Higher Apprenticeship Program (HAP). The program serves as an alternative pathway for students to 'Earn while you learn as a PwC Apprentice and create your career, differently' after completing their secondary education. This opportunity was brought about by the College's involvement in OurSchool's Alumni Development Program for government schools. Hearing from the HAP alumni firsthand regarding the diversity of experiences offered and any challenges they faced, helped our students understand better what the expectations of the program are and made the application process seem more tangible.

Year 10 Work Experience

This week our year 10 students have embarked on their Work Experience placement for the week. Below are some of the students' experiences.

Bernard on day two of his placement this week at Riddick Cafe. Bernard has been helping with food prep in the kitchen and assists with lunchtime service in the kitchen. He told Mr Siassios that he was happy there and has found the cafe staff to be so welcoming and friendly.

Matthew and Charlie are loving their placement at Aumann's Building & Garden Supplies, where they have been assisting around the grounds. Ms Fisher visited them earlier in the week and after a couple of days working they both agreed that the work was tiring but very rewarding.

Nick has found working at Barry Plant Real Estate in Doncaster East to be a very worthwhile experience. Nick has been involved in a variety of tasks and has very much been made to feel part of their team during his time there.

James chose to undertake his work placement at Trend Carpets, where he was learning about how to assess and fix squeaky floors and lay carpets. When Ms Foti visited him on Thursday, his employer told her that he had been impressed with James' fantastic work ethic and how well he had been fitting in with the rest of the employees.

Cathy spent the week working at Chatsworth Terrace Aged Care, where she was helping out in the kitchen and keeping the residents occupied. Cathy told Ms Jing that full-time work is exhausting but she found it really rewarding. One of the residents made the comment that Cathy has been playing the piano beautifully for the residents each day.

Sohela decided to do her work experience with Sheils Bookkeeping Service. She has been learning to use excel and has even been able to meet with clients.

Working at Tunstall Square Kindergarten, Rebecca has been able to interact with the children and play games with them throughout the day. Her employer explained that Rebecca has been working hard and has been engaging with the children really well.
