STUDENT LEADERSHIP - HALLOWEEN PARADE

We had a 'spooky' start to Thursday 31st October, as all students came dressed for Halloween wonderfully organised by Student Council. We began the day with a parade and there were certainly some amazing costumes. Thank you to the student council for organising activities at lunch time.

CONGRATULATIONS RIPPER REBELS

On the weekend our grade 6 netball team, the RIPPER REBELS, played their last game together as a team.  It was a nail-biting match in which they were narrowly defeated by 1 goal

Over the past 4 years the girls have improved their fitness and developed their skills to become very versatile players. They have been outstanding representatives of Ripponlea Primary. They have been supported by their parents who have happily and proudly coached and managed the team.   Congratulations girls, on a wonderful 4 years of sportsmanship.

GRADE 3-6 HOUSE SWIMMING CARNIVAL

This coming Monday (18th November) we are looking forward to our annual House Swimming Carnival. This year, we are trialling hosting this event in Term 4 to bring all of our Grade 3-6 students together to battle it out for the final House points of the year. These points will be added to the athletics and cross country carnival points to determine the overall House winner of this year’s carnival events.

Students will depart from school at 9:10am and leave Prahran Aquatic Centre at 1:30pm. The schedule will include four fun relay events including pool noodles, kick boards, boogie boards and inflatable balls and all students have been encouraged to sign up for as many events as they can. We’d love you all to come and watch if possible. The schedule of events can be found here: House Swimming Schedule

Please note it is very difficult to determine times due to the first time running this programme.

If you are able to assist with jobs on the day (such as event starts, competitor placement and timing), please sign up on the following document: House swimming help sign up

Students are required to wear swim caps and goggles for safety. It is advisable for students to come with their bathers underneath their school uniform and bring a towel and plastic bag for afterwards. Students must be sun smart and wear hats and given the weather recently, please be sun smart with sunscreen. Please bring plenty of water and food for the day.

CARNIE BALL SALE

Not too long ago, the House Captains assisted Miss Jo by selling Carnie Balls to students who wished to play with them at recess and lunch. It has been Miss Jo's mission to make sure that students do not miss out on the fun and enjoyment that a Carnie Ball can bring.

If you did not get the chance to purchase one on the day there are still a few left for $3 each

NEWS FROM THE ART ROOM

This term Years 1 and 2 are studying one of the most significant and intriguing artists of the 20th Century, Georgia O’Keeffe. An American artist famous for her paintings of flowers and the desert landscape of New Mexico, O’Keeffe was one of the first female artists to gain recognition for her art in New York in the 1920s. She developed her own unique style which was a combination of abstract and realism.

Years 1 and 2 students completed a series of studies on some of the most famous artworks of O’Keeffe which have informed their own art making this term. After completing a series of pastel drawings, students have used clay to construct small organic shaped bowls using O’Keeffe’s work as inspiration. Miss Zoe has completed 2 firings and fortunately no kiln explosions (fingers crossed!) for the rest of the firings. In the coming weeks, students will glaze or paint their ceramic pieces. We are all looking forward to the outcome of this project.

Foundation students continue to engage in their art making and learn about the modern masters, completing their response to Claude Monet’s Water Lilies. The next artist study for Foundation will be the extraordinary Louise Bourgeois whose famous life-size Spider 1994 sculpture is housed at the TATE Modern in London. Students will use this artwork as inspiration for their final project for the year.

In other news, the Jean Michel-Basquiat and Keith Haring exhibition opens at the NGV in the next few weeks and will continue into the new year. This provides a great opportunity for students to see some of the artworks discussed during class in real life. David Hockney’s prints and drawings are also being displayed at the Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery for the summer.
